Good episode. Billy back to doing what he does best, and just proves how great he is when he's actually acknowledged by the writers.
Julia's theme wouldn't have worked because we still have the actual funeral next episode. I'm a bit annoyed that the Carters get the doof doof on Thursday but whatever, I'm over it. |

Roxy said tonight that Charlie was doing this for someone he had never met, but I was sure he had met Jim?
Off screen obviously

On the whole a good episode, nice scenes with Cora and Patrick. Also powerful scenes with Linda and Dean.
Lindsay Coulson shone again. The difference with Lindsay which sets her apart from the other actors in the show is, she is not putting on a performance, it's as if she is not acting. It seems real and it is effortless. This is very hard to do and rare for an actor to acheive in a continuing drama. IMO the only other actor to do this is the brilliant Ali King from Coronation Street. Lindsay is without doubt the best actor in EastEnders. IMO Lindsay is to good for EastEnders or any soap. Lindsay should do a master class on how to act in a continuing drama. Quality. It is a joy to watch her in any scene she appears. |

It was a good episode tonight - nice to have the whole community included. Phil's comment was priceless "two for the price of one", Kim made me laugh during the eulogy.
The Linda/Dean scene was good - Kellie Bright has proven her weight in gold lately, and she is a great actress. Linda really is the driving force and rock of the family. Nice to see Dot change her mind and attend the funeral. June really gave it her all as usual. I hope she is released, getting sick of her being in jail. Charlie and Roxy, hmm......is it me or has Ronnie approved this and had a secret fling with Vincent? The coffin mix up was funny, you had one job Billy Mitchell and you blew it. The Carol and Max scenes have been underrated and pure gold. Carol despite the issues with her Dad, did deeply care and wanted to be strong for her and the family. Tina has really shone as a character - handled the eulogy delivery well and has been the only level-headed one in the Carters along with Lee and Nancy during the aftermath of Stan's death. I feel for Patrick - no Jim, no Stan and no Cora Kim and Denise are his family but he needs someone his own age and his level. I think this is going to be a strong week, and the writing and delivery has been top class. Keep it up. |

Damn it Mick. We were maybe ten seconds away from a confession...
![]() Nice fatherly moment between Tina and Carol. ![]() Stan and Jim would indeed be laughing their socks off at your pair of muppets, Alfie and Billy. Roxy's done enough for Charlie already, Ronnie. Well, Ben got Lola knocked up and he's gay, Kim... ![]() Godsake Charlie and Roxy. What is with you two? :rollsyes: Stan really was a selfish git, tbh. What will Babe do with her life now her life obsession is gone, continue to torment her sister to the grave? Yesss, take out Babe before you go Cora! ![]() Hi Vincent. That acknowledgement nod between Cora and Dot. It was nice of them to both convince the other to attend their funerals. Jim's hat...

Mixed bag for me, tonight.
The Linda and Dean showdown was very heavily advertised... and over in five minutes. I was expecting a little more than that... hell, I was expecting a 2-hander. But nope, this is dragging on yet more. The baby isn't even sodding born yet and all. Dean's convinced himself he didn't do it when, deep down, he damn well knows he did. Everyone thinks Linda's lying because Dean's got away with it, which, sadly, can be very true to life. Mick seriously needs to let Shirley go. She's made her choice, content to brand a woman who's married to the son she apparently loves, to be branded a liar, and for the man who did it to walk free. Yes, she cares for Dean, but it's more to do with herself. Her making up for her past mistakes. Jesus, Shirley really is a freaking horrible character. I mean, wow. Are we supposed to like her after this? Does DTC really think she's going to be a Pat like figure in 20 years? Pat made mistakes, but never on this scale, and she held her hands up to them. More than anything... she loved her family. Shirley loves herself. I agree with the above re Lindsey Coulson: she's utterly brilliant. How ironic that Carol and Max, the two children who hated Jim the most, have been left to organize his funeral. We didn't need Scott Maser for this - Jack, the favourite, not turning up just sums up the Brannings in a nutshell. But hey, Dot turned up! Both funeral scenes were done really well (liked Tina) and I'm looking forward (is that the right word) to Jim's on Thursday. However, the forced comedy was simply atrocious. It was like someone stepped in and demanded they introduce comedy in episodes about two funerals, because they were worried they may be too depressing. Well, duh!!! The whole coffin switch was utterly stupid, and just there to once again make Billy look dumb. Nobody is that dumb. And I counted seven other Coker employees. Did none of them check the name on the sodding coffin? Finally, FINALLY, Vincent!!! Where in the name of Kathy Beale has he sodding been??? It's about bloody time!!! Goood episode, let down by stupid comedy. I mean, it was just terrible. |

Why didn't Carol and Max ask Abi and Sonia to write and deliver a eulogy for Jim? I get that neither of them have particularly great memories of him, but Abi and Sonia do, and would likely be glad to do it.

Roxy said that Charlie had never met Jim, but I swear Dot took Charlie to the nursing home to visit Jim at least once. I think that was when Charlie and Dot first started to bond.

Could have done without the "hilarious" coffin swap. Oh my aching sides
And was very distracted by Sharon's dreadful, unflattering crispy-looking ringlets. Someone in makeup/wardrobe really doesn't like her |

Why would Ian go to one funeral, let alone two, if it was traumatic for him? He wasn't close to either Stan or Jim and they didn't need him to make up numbers.

I disagree that she's a joy to watch as the character is so unrelentingly miserable, and was long before the cancer. Moping around in a dowdy cardigan like an old lady, in a grimly decorated house. On thinking about it - the women (in particular) don't seem to find much spontaneous joy in life, with the exception of Roxy, but her life is too dependent on terrible choices of partner. Mostly, the women only have fun when they've downed a bottle of vodka, or come into some money and can go shopping "up west" or to the beauty parlour to get some horrible hair. They've never given Carol any interests, any passions, outside of David Wicks and her kids / grandkids. Is that what life is like? |

Another poor episode.
Silly Billy "comedy" scenes A rinse and repeat Carter scenes - Linda goes to see Dean 1 step forward - Mick wades in and confrontation stares between Linda and Dean - Linda frowns - 444444th time this has happened. Does anyone care anymore? 95% funeral scenes were Carter scenes - not sure why Ian and Phil went to Stans funeral. They never even spoke to him. Just there to reinforce DTC's vision that the Carters are gods and number 1 family so the likes of Ian and Phil must bow in their presence. Charlie - what a way to dump on a character. He shows no remorse for ditching Ronnie or being at Jim's funeral for Dot. All he wanted to do is rip off Roxy's clothes (and maybe paint on some more eyebrows for her). I did like seeing Vincent again but it was all too brief. I am a tad disappointed that he and Ronnie has a "whirlwind" romance in 2013 because that means they don't really love each other. They should have known each other from way back. 2/10 - not a fitting tribute to John Bardon IMO. |

Yes, but not on the same scale as Stan's funeral.
Stan's funeral only consisted of a eulogy from Tina, I wouldn't say it was on the grander side of the scale.

I just knew silly Billy would get the coffins mixed up, thank god for Alfie, who looked handsome in his suit!
Nice Eulogy from Tina, shame that Mick and Shirley couldn't put their differences aside for one day to remember their dad! I'm glad Dot finally made it to the funeral and that was a lovely touch with his flat cap, shame Charlie was too busy being a cheating get to support his gran though! Nice to see Patrick walking again! |
