EE: So Johnny doesn't know that Linda was raped. Ok fine, but ...
GeekInfected

does he know that Shirley is his grandma?

Johnny will find out during his inevitable return with a new face.

probably not

they told him not to come back for the funeral - sorry but if my grandfather had died I would certainly not miss his funeral - no matter where I was in the world!

Nope, I don't think so. That parentage reveal has been completely lost, I wanted to see the reaction from Denise but that was done off-screen and I also wanted to see some more from Mick and Shirley - the whole thing was accepted by the family unbelievably quickly for such a huge secret. Shirley is a long term character and this is a big part of her history now, I kind of expected more - the best ep we have had on it was back in Jan when they were all in the Vic.

Also does Carly know about Dean/Linda? Does she know that she has a half brother in Mick? Does Johnny know Stan has died? Once a character leaves, it is like they never existed.

Who actually knows about Mick/Shirley now?

I think it was a bad move to make it square knowledge that Dean attacked Linda and Shirley is actually Mick's mother, because in real-life logic tells us that Johnny would have found out by now. Social media and all that.

I think it is only the rape that is public knowledge - the only people that know about Mick/Shirley is Phil, Sharon, Denise, Tamwar and the immediate family - unless others found out of screen?

In real life those kinds of things wouldn't be put on social media, would they? Well, I personally wouldn't.

I don't use social media myself (unless you count DS) but don't most young people put practically everything on social media? Maybe not for all to see, but among close associates?

Probably. I mean I guess I just don't see close personal matters as the things to broadcast on SM but I imagine it does happen!

I would come from the end of the world to come to my Grandad's funeral. What was Johnny's excuse? Then again, it's poor continuity on DTC and his writer's parts.

Oh, I very much share your view, but I think a lot of people have no real concept of boundaries.

Could of sworn either Mick or Shirley referred to it in the Vic when Mick made his speech for Stan the other day? Could be imagining it, but I'm sure I remember being surprised because I didn't think it was common knowledge.

I'm sure everyone knows. If they didn't know we would have seen scenes where Nancy asks Tamwar to keep it a secret. I'm sure everyone knows.

I certainly wouldn't and don't know anybody that would.

It might be different if somebody immediately affected chose to announce it in that way with their families permission but i think even that is unlikely. Talking about somebody else's family life (say Whitney talking about it) would be gossip, pure and simple and quite malicious gossip at that.

They didn't about a month ago, Shirley was surprised that Sharon did when they spoke in the cafe. There have been no big, general announcements on screen since then except shirley's drunken rant about asking if Mick would be at her deathbed.

The people we've seen that know are quite close to the inner circle and quite trust worthy anyway. Tamwar is not the type of person to need to be told to keep something like that confidential. Neither is Denise.

Well I'm sure they do now surely?

I can't see how anyone can know. Like KitKat says, Tamwar would be discreet as would Denise. And it's true, Shirley was shocked when she found out Sharon knew.

When Shirley drunkenly mentioned it in the pub, there was no one in there who is a regular character to find out.

If it was public knowledge, I would imagine there would be some gossip going on or at least scenes where it was spoken about.

I think it must just be Denise, Sharon, Phil, Tamwar and close family who know. I imagine Elaine does? I wish we had seen Denise find out on screen and seen her reaction.

The excuse is the actors off doing other things, he choose to leave which is obviously his choice, but it left the EE team in the lurch with how to handle his absent, it is poor but then what other choice do they have, it's way too early for a recast, so they bit stumped for excuses.

Ah okay. See my logic is that if nobody knew there would at least have been some scenes where the Carters allude to it being a secret. The rule of thumb usually tends to be "If it's not a secret, the whole square knows"
