Which would be fine and is in character, but it was so quick, so quiet and with so little fanfare. There was no build up, no nothing, just happened suddenly and randomly. I think the rape attempt was to show he's still a monster and capable of hurting but it seemed bit of an odd scene. I know at that point he was desperate but I didn't buy he would force himself on Buffy. It was quite disturbing to watch when I first viewed it.

Yeah... a lot of people are so full of shit. You can tell when they're just saying whatever to shut you up. Well yeah, I mean there's nothing wrong with asking what it is you like about the thing or whatever, and saying it doesn't do anything for them, but being like no that's wrong you shouldn't like it... Unless it's the bloody Klu Klux Klan or something, who do people think they are?

That's really awful. I've found certain things problematic in other people, like religion, but I'd never say you are wrong and need to stop this, that's just the height of arrogance. For the most part we just agree not to discuss it as it'll never be agreed upon. That's life, you accept something you don't like in people or you let them go, you can't bully them into being exactly what you want. If you never compromise you'll end up alone.
I've been friends with some very dominating, controlling personalities and I couldn't stand it, I had to leave the friendships behind. I guess I must have been easy pickings because I'm very shy and really not assertive. Not so much online because it's easier to speak your mind, but certainly in real life. There was only so much I could take of being told I was wrong about everything and having people try to mould me in their own image. I might not have been loud, confident or have such a huge personality but I won't be told what to do and how to be. Had more than enough of that from my family.

The scene did feel like it was randomly put in. I think Joss Whedon hated the scene but only said years later. Of course rape is violent and disturbing so each time on rewatch I still have the same feeling when Spike attempts to rape Buffy. Then I'm always left which genius thought that was a good idea.

When I told her she said it would be nice if I got it on her birthday and said when it was.
