So obviously something has to be planned for Cora's return. The character is pretty much at a dead end, if she hasn't been axed now, DTC obviously has plans for her. It would be pretty pointless if she just arrived on the square again and sunk back into the background.

Perhaps Tanya has died off-screen and that's why she hasn't been answering Cora's calls, or Cora ends up homeless as none of her family want her. Whatever it is, I'd like a Tanya or Rainie return to give Ann Mitchell a reason to stay.

My theory is:

Poisonous Babe will get worse and worse and will cripple the Carter family even more and Cora when she returns will expose Babe and reveal Ramsgate leading to an epic catfight between Babe and Cora

I'm not sure about that. Watching two pensioners fight over and over again just doesn't entertain me. It bores me.

Why would they kill a popular character like Tanya off screen just to give Cora a storyline

Her final scene proves that something is going to happen, and I'm certain it involves Tanya somehow.

They killed off Lucy to give the Beale's a storyline, even though Lucy had so much more to give.

I'm not sure what could happen, unless they introduce a new family character?

I'm sure a future exec producer would revive Tanya if DTC killed her off. She's too popular a character to write out for good.

It certainly looked like she'll be back, even Patrick said it I can't see Tanya putting up with her for long she hasn't even got through to her on the phone we could be surprised and Cora doesn't even leave, you never know.

That's completely different though, Lucy's exit storyline was one of the biggest in EE history, and she died on screen. It's not the same as killing off a popular who's barely been in it for the past few years in order to give a less popular character something to do.

If Jane said that she had picked up Peter 'like a baby' Ian would have burst out laughing and spoiled the tension!

She'll be back with her silver bullets. I'd like Tanya to return too and Lauren. Cora wouldn't have mentioned the silver bullets if she was leaving for good.

I'm kind of expecting Tanya or Rainies return to be announced in the next week or so to pave Cora coming back as well.

Exclusive: Eastenders Matriarch Ann Mitchell for controversial, explosive new storylines

She may have played a quiet role as of late, but things are soon to start heating up for Enders' Cora Cross after her return to Albert Square in the summer.

When Max Branning starts behaving like his usual sluttish self again, buying expensive lingerie and sneaking off to hotel rooms he can't afford, viewers will start to question the identity of his latest squeeze/victim. The Daily Mail can reveal that in a shock twist to air this August, Max's lover will be revealed to be his former Mother-in-Law Cora Cross, in scenes heavily reminiscent of the 2003 film The Mother.

After being infected with the Branning sperm of doom, Cora will then miraculously and implausibly discover that she is pregnant with quadruplets. After deciding against an abortion, tragedy will strike when Cora is viciously attacked and left fighting for her life by a mysterious assailant. An Eastenders source let slip that Cora will then be run over by [insert troubled female character name here] and caught up in the following explosion, which promises to be Eastenders' biggest stunt yet.

Could this be the end of Cora Cross?

No. Not by a long shot. Dominic Treadwell Collins has stated: "Ann is such a massive soap icon, and the show cannot afford to lose her". Rumours suggest that whilst the character is set to disappear from screens for a few weeks following these events, she will make a shock Re-appearance at the wedding of granddaughter PsychoAbi and her gay boyfriend Ben.

Viewers will learn she survived after learning the secret of immortality from John Stape and that her apparent "death" was an elaborate ploy constructed by Les Coker and a British Witness Protection programmes.

Collins hopes that her new exposure will propel Mitchell to the title of "Queen of Soap" recently given up by Michelle Keegan. Early plans are underfoot with Mitchell's representatives to launch a 2016 "Ann Mitchell Official Calender" which will feature the actress posing seductively in a variety of bikinis.
