EE: let's be honest, who else cringed when Shirley donned the blow torch mask?

So Shirley simply asks a mate for 10k and then raids the Arches (which is actually theft, as Phil doesn't own it) and then storms into the Vic and uses a blowtorch to cut the signpost in half in full view of a pub crowd.

CRINGEWORTHY. Who thinks this kind of rubbish up?

Awful.

If I ran that pub Shirley would be barred completely, her feet wouldn't even touch the floor on the way out that's how hard I would throw her. I sometimes like scenes on the same wavelength as the sign cutting but I don't think that one did it for me, probably because I spent too much time being annoyed at Shirley's latest antics

Also on the subject of "I'm buying you out!" *slaps £10k on the bar* ... Surely £10k is pretty much the only stake she has in the first place? If memory serves me correctly she only has her name above the door because she convinced Stan to give them some money to get work done on the Vic... Which amounts to a small fraction of what the Vic actually cost Mick and Linda to buy? Don't tell me Mick and Linda were stupid enough to give Shirley a stake that's worth more than the money she got them from Stan? If not then the 10k payment would be a drop in the ocean if she wants to buy them out. Lastly her name above the door can mean almost nothing unless they literally signed a percentage of the property to her, so did they? Someone help me please, I'm terribly confused

I thought it was a grinder not a blow torch, - but either way it was ridiculous & utter cringe worthy, as was the singing at the funeral.

I thought it was hilarious, especially when it was punctuated with Mick's Flashdance comment.

Throwing the money on the bar was the silly part. It's a joke that Shirley can even get that much money, even off of Phil. It's also about a 1% down payment on the place and Mick and Linda would have to consent to the sale, which of course they won't. It's ludicrous.

At least we know Shirley has some job skills when Blades folds.

I thought it was absolutely hilarious!

Mick didn't expect that did he?

Mick's reference to Flashdance made me titter as well, they should have gone the whole hog and had Shirl in a leotard and What A Feeling playing in the background!

I actually thought it was quite funny, ridiculous, yes but Shirley knows how to make a point and I don't think it was supposed to be taken overly seriously! I think it was just supposed to be a dramatic way to take Shirley's name down, obviously Mick will buy Shirley out of the Vic eventually - I think that is where they are going with it anyway.

It was absolutely cringing and toe curling wasn't it! I'm glad I wasn't the only one to feel this.........

I take it this was the first time she'd actually used a blow torch yet was perfectly confident in dealing with it. No fear at all. Knew exactly what to do......

This is where EE gets boring for me. Just ridiculous stupidity

That was the kind of scene that Vanessa Gold would've absolutely owned. With Shirley, it just made her more of a witch. Makes me wish Vee was still around and for some reason she was an investor in the Vic. A falling out with Mick and Linda, followed by a chainsaw to the plaque and name calling ("Carter scum"?) would've been so funny.

It was ridiculous, and it almost felt like it was breaking the fourth wall somewhat. It completely took me out of the moment and reminded me I was watching a TV show - something which any work of fiction should strive never to do.

Cringeworthy? I'm still trying to unclench my arse and straighten my toes, lol!

OMG. I thought they couldn't top the cheesiness of Sonia breaking into song but donning ya welding gear to grind through a pub licensee sign on the bar takes the biscuit! I did wonder if Mick's Flashdance remark was in the original script or added that day, lol!

My abiding memory though is Linda's screech of "MY BAR!" Never mind, they can take the money to repair the bar out of the original £10,000 'Shirley' (i.e. Stan) put in - but not before I declared that money was Stan's and it's only fair that anything he left was shared equally between both his daughters and promptly bunged Tina her half! Leaving our Shirl with £5,000 minus bar repair

Shirley paid the 10K back to Stan by borrowing it off Phil because Stan demanded it back to pay for Blades - so the money by that point of switching hands would have nothing to do with Tina and was Shirley's.

Does that mean that Shirley actually owes Phil 20 grand then?!

I thought it was brilliant... so funny.

Shirley doesn't do things by halves does she?

I think this is leading to Mick and Linda buying her out of the Vic so I am willing to accept it as I think she works better at Blades and with the Truemans. I can't dislike her for standing by Dean as it's obvious she believes in his innocence and the CPS dropping the case has only fuelled that.

I think she and Dean paid it back last year? Well we saw Dean give Phil a down payment so I imagine that it is paid off. However Phil never really chases Shirley up for the money she owes him, does he?

If she is going to make a point - she is going to do it with style! I like her determination.

I think it is too, I was saying this on another thread, I think it was solely used as a dramatic, entertaining way to remove Shirley's name from above the door and cause a bit of chaos with it, rather than just seeing Mick unscrewing the plate or something. Obviously this is the beginning of Mick buying Shirley out but I am ok with that because I too, like Shirley at Blades and I like that she is part of the Trueman/Fox family.

I understand where a lot of viewers want her redeemed for her behaviour towards Linda but I think it is evident that she completely believes Dean right now and with the CPS not taking it further, it only emphasises that belief. Plus you have Denise and Buster who also believe Dean, Ian questioning whether it actually happened, Carol telling Shirley to fight for Dean and Sharon/Phil too. She is just trying to be a mother - imagine if he was innocent and she turned her back on him again? Even Linda, the victim, understands Shirley stance.

It was a bit bubbly in the fridge! I do wonder what the actress thought when she got the script.
