Obviously depending on if she ever wanted to go back.

I can't remember a time where a recast has ever come back on any show after being cast again. Would they ever do it? And could it work ?

For me, I don't think they should never have brought back Daniellia, after Kim had such a huge storyline with the dirty den saga , it just did not make any sense to bring back Daniella. Kim also showed character progression , she was believable in the role of a 'grown up' Sam. All that work seemed to come undone when they chose to use Daniella again.

I personally would love to see Kim back in the role . could also pave the way for a Chrissie return which so many seem to want

I always preferred Kim's version, however I don't know if it would work again after they brought her back last time as Danniella Westbrook.

I wish Kim returned for Sam's last stint, instead of Daniella. I would have preferred Kim back. I am not sure if bringing Sam back again, with Kim playing her would work though. It would be confusing, considering Daniella was the last Sam.

Kim Medcalf was so much better than Daniella Westbrook as Sam.

I agree, I remember when daniella came back Shane Richie was voicing his disappointment that Kim wasn't going back. Wonder what Kim Medcalf is up to now

I remember Kim having a bad accident a few years ago, I don't know if her recovery had an impact on her career but she doesn't seem to have done much acting since, which is a shame because I always enjoyed her portrayal of Sam.

I'd welcome her back over Westbrooke any day.

I was thinking some sort of job share, Aurs. Kim Medcalf could shoot Thursday-Saturday and Westbrook could do Mon-Weds, thus leaving Daniella her weekends free to go and engage in some heavy substance abuse.

For me Kim Medcalf was a stronger actress but I never believed in her as being Sam, it's almost as if Medcalfs Sam and Westbrooks are two separate characters. For me Daniella's Sam is the authentic one.

I agree I can see why people might feel more attached to Kim's Sam if they only started watching in that era, or only caught the tail end of Westbrook's time in the show when she had 'problems' and was ineffective, but as someone who remembers all the classic stuff with Sam/Ricky/Phil/Grant, I could never get used to her as Sam. Whenever she was on screen with Ricky, Peggy or Phil it just felt odd.

Medcalf's the better actress but I don't think there's a gulf there to be honest.

As she's been in the role before yes. I don't like westbrooks portrayal as Sam. Kim was a lot better in the role!

No thanks
Daniella made the role her own. Sam was a common as they come and had no airs and graces. When Kim took over, Sam was well spoken and was more of a "lady" and a had a bit of class. I felt when Kim took over, it was as if Sam had a new personality transplant.

No thanks. Sam's recasting was one of many awful things around that time anyway.

HELL YES! I'd welcome her back with open arms. Scott Maslen is unlikely to be back anytime soon and I trust that Kim Medcalf could draw a line under that appalling Danniella Westbrook stint. Kim and Tracy-Ann Oberman OWNED (and I mean OWNED) 2005, both of them worked their arses off to build something special. 2004 and 2006 were both awful years but between them was such a flagship year for the soap. Den's death might have not been wisest thing in the long term since Leslie's departure triggered a ton of big name exits (Tracy, Kim, Shane, Jessie, Michelle, Nigel, Letitia). But Chrissie vs Sam was one of the best storylines of the past 15 years.

I agree. Daniella may have been the original Sam, but Kim Medcalf's Sam was far better in my opinion.

The only show I could think of was Roseanne and the character of Becky Conner, who was played by the original actress Lecy Goranson for a few years. Then they recasted to Sarah Chalke for another few seasons before Lecy came back,. After that it became a bit of a running joke within the show if I remember right.

they played the character completely differently. Kim's Sam didn't work well with Ricky but Danniella's did. You would be hard pressed to believe that someone like Kim's Sam was related to Phil and Peggy. Danniella isn't the greatest of actresses and to be fair I don't think there is a place on the square for Sam whether that is Kim's Sam or Danniella's Sam.

I think Westbrook should return

I don't see a place for Sam at the moment. They only got her back last time as Babs Windsor was leaving, but yet their exits were seperate and weeks apart. I think if Jack Branning was still in the show, then a return would of worked as she has a son by him.

I never liked either of them at all.

I hope Kim's ok after her accident though and that she's able to continue her career.

I saw Kim on the tube a few months ago and she was looking terrific. Her accident was back in 2002 when she was in Eastenders. So I think she's fine.

Oh I see, that's good then. Thanks for the update.

I preferred Kim's Sam, but I don't see the need for either version of the character right now. If Ronnie and Roxy left it might be worth bringing her back.

Why not? Charlie hasn't completed the Mitchell family trifecta yet established by Ronnie's previous husband.

I preferred Kim as Sam, but I think Daniella's last stint ruined the chance of bringing Kim back because they took the character right back to before Kim took over. It was as if they ignored all the character's progression.

She's been fine for years. She does a lot of musical theatre now. Cabaret and South Pacific are among many of her theatre credits. She would never have been able to do roles like that if she hadn't recovered from her accident.

To be honest, if they can bring back Den and Kathy from the dead and revert back to Danniella after already recasting Kim as Sam, there's no reason why Kim can't replace her again. There are many examples of soaps being ridiculous, so I'd happily take Kim returning as Sam since in my eyes it'd be "righting a wrong". It's easier to pretend that Sam's 2009 stint didn't exist rather than keep on pretending that her whole 2002-2005 stint didn't. I'd say more people remember Sam trying to cover up the murder of Den than her coming back for a few months just to get back with Ricky briefly - despite the former being 10 years ago compared to the latter's 6.
