Dual roles have been a staple in the American Soaps since the 80's and almost every soap at one point or another had an actor playing a dual role. However none of the British soaps have dual roles currently, haven they had them in the past and if not would a dual role be something you'd like to see? One that I could see doing off the bat would be having Simon Gregson play Steve and Steve's twin brother Andy on Corrie.

Andy looks nothing like Steve. They aren't identical.

Might have worked if we didn't already know Andy.

I think it could work, his brother hasn't been on screen for years so its possible as they got older they could have started to look more alike.

That's not how it works.

Twins don't just "turn" identical.

Not English, but Christie Hayes played Kirsty Sutherland as well as her identical twin on Home and Away. It actually worked well as we saw them both in the same scene and she played them really differently

True, Steve was really just an example of a character i thought it could work with. Would be up for another actor on the show playing a dual role? I think Jack Shepard could probably pull it off but it would be hard to explain how David had a twin know one knew about.

This sort of happened in Corrie before (although one of the characters had died and weren't on screen together). Joan Kempson played Edna the Rovers cleaner from 1998-2001. Edna died in 2001 and a few episodes later Joan also played Edna's sister Iris at the funeral.

Doctors did this fairly recently with Freya and then the same actress playing her sister some time after Freya died. Although the characters obviously didn't appear on screen at the same time.

They also did this towards the beginning with Carly and her evil twin Samantha (both played by Sharyn Hodgson).

Going back to the 80s, Gwynneth Guthrie played Mrs Mack in 'Take the High Road,' and her sister, Florance...

Crossroads had many dual roles..........
Trevor Bannister(of Are You Being Served) played a guest at the motel - never said he was a twin! He knocked off Diane - the other went with Dot smith!
Carlos the chef had an evil twin too in the 60's.
In 2002 the Hotel porter had an evil twin as well!

Dual roles (from what I've observed) have sometimes occurred on Indian soaps (my mum watches a couple of them on the Hindi channels on Sky).

I remember there was a set of twins on Neighbours, who I am sure were played by a single actor. Think they had something to do with Katya Kinski and Max Hoyland ran over one of them.

Not sure if it has ever happened in the UK. I would've laughed if Linda Henry portrayed both Shirley Carter AND Lorraine Salter around the time Mandy was brought back to EE. They went with Linda's former Bad Girls co-star Victoria Alcock.
