The latter. It's not spelling it properly; it's being lazy.
And you are also being lazy. That should be: “It is not spelling it properly; it is being lazy.”

Hmmmm?

There's nothing wrong with typing 'Dr Who' whatsoever. And, although I recognise we're on a forum dedicated to discussing the show, I think if that grinds your gears then you need to rethink some priorities
But that's during the 60's (which, in fairness, I said was when the show was referred to as 'Dr Who'). It hasn't been 'Dr Who' since then.

It is in some places. And, even so... who cares? Doctor Who, Dr Who, Dr. Who... all the same thing. (And, DB, you've probably referred to the show as 'DW' before, which is also the same thing.)
Only on Twitter because of the word count.

I wasn't going to reply, since yours was an opinion, which holds as much validity as mine own, however, calling me lazy is getting personal.

Do you perchance, when addressing an envelope, write Mister out fully? Or do you abbreviate it? What about Mrs? Do you complain to your local health centre when they abbreviate doctor on their name signs?

If I were to be really picky shouldn't Dalek Buster be two words rather than one?

Are you too shallow to give an opinion on the clip I posted rather than to contradict me and express a contentious opinion and feeling as though it were strict fact?

But the full and salient point is, does any of this really matter? And the answer to that is, no.
Only 127 words, brotonsbaby? Very lazy. I expected at least 500 from you on this subject.

If there is an argument to be made, it's that the 'Doctor' in the title refers to the name of the character, rather than being someone being a doctor by the name of Who. Therefore, in this context, the 'Doctor' isn't a title, and so that particular 'Dr.' abbreviation shouldn't apply.

But plenty of people would write, "I'm going to see the Dr." without any ambiguity, so I'm inclined not to care too much.

If you're going to comment on the show, at least get its name right. I'm not being picky, the show IS called 'Doctor Who', not 'Dr Who'.

Blimey, this forum lately, but I'll play

What's the full spelling of 'Mrs'?

I don't believe (at least in British English) that any abbreviation where the last letter is the same as the original word needs a full stop.

It's arguable that 'Doctor' is his name rather than a title - most of the recent arc on that suggest the latter.

Only on Twitter because of the word count.
Eh, what Twitter word count?

Perhaps 'word limit' would have been a better choice of words?

240 characters if we're being specific (yes, it's not words but it pretty much is).

Anyway, now Dalekbuster's worked out Twitter (more or less), back on topic - that video was superbly produced and amazingly played - not my cup of tea really but thanks for posting

The best thing about it was the middle eight - Doctor Who is just not Doctor Who without it for me

There's a reason kids who watched Dr Who in the 80s had the piss taken out of them by normal kids. And this sort of behaviour is part of it.

And yes, the show IS called Dr Who, according to the BBC...

Does any of this actually matter to anyone except Dalekbuster523?
I simply can't believe that he's banging on about whether the show should be Dr Who or Doctor Who... It's the same thing, we all know what is meant, and anyway, who flipping cares?
Good heavens, Dalekbuster, don't you have anything more sensible to do with your life? Anything at all?

Well if it's acceptable to have characters called Steve, Dev, Fiz, Andy, Billy and Ken, what's Dalek Buster 523's problem with the "Dr" in Dr Who?

It's already been proven that The Character's name is and always was at the beginning, "Dr. Who", as played by Bill Pertwee and Thomas B, etc.

Personally, I love watching P Caps and J Col wrack the mic. Psych. Now there was a woman.

For a period in the Mid 80's, thanks to a certain companion, I thought it was changed to Dahhhctuur Who.

What did you mean, anyhow...?

PS. Do you wear a gas mask and have a distinctive scar on the back of your right hand? The question's rhetorical and the answer's no.
