Tonight we get to see Ant and Dec being hypnotised by a dog.

After the audition, Dec said: “We had to go and spend a bit of time with the dog beforehand, about half an hour so that it could do it’s thing and work on us. It was a bit odd really because the dog made us forget the number seven.

“For everything else we were perfectly all right apart from when we tried to recall the number seven. When we were with the dog before we were like, ‘We’re really not hypnotised, it definitely hasn’t worked because we feel completely normal’,

“The next thing we couldn’t recall the number seven, it just wouldn’t come out of our mouths, so it definitely did something.”

It'll be fake. I can't believe that Ant and Dec played along with that so called hypnotising dog.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if this really could happen...did it? Gullible, me...no way!

If they revealed all they would have said it was faked. Even Ant and Dec are trying to insult people's intelligence, i thought they were better than that.

Ant and Dec heard the woman say they wouldn't remember the number seven. She said it loud enough. They just went along with it. imo

They admit they feigned the falling asleep then? Not that it wasn't obvious, one girl who fell down then put her arm around her head.

Being that Dec states they spent half an hour with the woman and dog beforehand, it sounds like she might actually hypnotise all the people herself beforehand and puts the thought into their head that the dog will be the trigger to be re-hypnotised when on stage, hence she conveniently picked one row from the audience and why Simon's hypnotism failed. The dog is just to make a standard hypnotism look different.

Some of those audience members were clearly faking, their hypnotism probably failed, but they felt pressure to be "hypnotised" so faked it so as not to ruin the act and create an awkward situation on TV.

It was crap. It all looked so fake and phoney and made it seem like the show was taking the piss out of the viewers.

She definitely said the number five.

That's right. I'm just catching up now, with subtitles and that is exactly what she said.

The dog is obviously just a prop that she uses to hypnotise people, apparently effectively.. Why would you assume it's fake, other than it isn't actually the dog?

You'll probably find that the majority of stage hypnotists work with their subjects beforehand. It simply wouldn't be practical to actually get them on stage and go through the whole process in front of people.

In one of Derren Brown's shows on Channel 4 he once explained that the 'audition' process for his subjects usually took a long time because they had to find people suggestible to hypnosis because not everyone is.

I went to a hypnotist stage show and he picked random volunteers. He then tried some suggestion, which only worked on about 3/4 of them. His assistant then took them backstage for more suggestion and presumably decided which subjects were the most suggestable and picked them for his next 'trick'.

Her picking the front row for volunteers was a fix. What if none of them wanted to take part? She'd obviously prearranged this.

My guess is that the woman has had all of the volunteers and Ant and Dec backstage for some hypnosis by stealth. She probably let them stare at the dog whilst she put seeds in their minds. "When you look at the dog you will feel sleepy"

Not everyone can be hypnotised and of those who can, they need a 'bit of work' doing on them first. Otherwise hypnotists the world over could walk into banks and ask the cashiers to hand over all the cash.

Many years ago I saw a hypnotist at the seaside in an open air show. He said to the audience, put your hand in the air, everybody did, then he said now put them down, everybody did apart from a few who couldn't put their arm down as it was stuck in the air. He then called those people up on stage. I didn't see him talk to anyone beforehand because it was all outside.

That's a new one on me and I think you are incorrect.

but he will have made suggestions to the audience (under the guise of general chat) and the ones who couldn't put their hand down were the suggestable type. He did what she did backstage.

On stage she just walked on and said look at my dog. That's not how it works.

Clearly the dog staring at the cameramen through their lenses had no effect.

An unusual prop, but given that her uncle had done the same act with the "hypnodog" for years it was just another slick presentation.


Talented? No.

Entertaining? No.

Like all acts involving animals, and especially dogs, it relied on the "Aw, isn't he/she so cute and adorable" reaction that appeals to around 40% of any audience.

Wonder how it would work with some creature a little less "cute and adorable"? An elephant seal, or a warthog, for example.

I suppose using a dog brings humour into the act and a novelty factor, which gets you publicity rather than just being another hypnotist
