I' ve got a iphone3gs . So my question is : can i still watch youtube from safari? And will videos now come with ads. ? (does youtube on mobile phones have adverts in videos?) *** i'm sure this is covered on the forum but i can't find it. |

Can't you just try it in Safari and see? The YouTube website should work...
If you've still got the built-in YouTube app then you must be using an iOS version below 6, as that's when it was removed. The YouTube app from the App Store is also an option, but you'll need to update to iOS 6 for that to work. Either way though you will get adverts. You'll also need a Google account if you want to bookmark videos. edit: Actually, I've just read Google's blog post about this, and it turns out that iOS 6 won't be supported anymore either, so it'll have to be the website for you. |

I was going to post about this a few days ago but Apple threads tend to go down hill rapidly thanks to a select few so I decided against it! So fingers crossed this will fly under their radar
![]() Firstly its not only the likes of the iPhone 3GS (which I own) but many other devices too like Blu-Ray players, Smart TV's and other set top boxes (I have a Sony Blur-Ray that's effected and a Humax Freeview Box aren't I lucky!) Google have decided to withdraw the older version of its YouTube API. Specifically relating to the the 3GS. Any device not running iOS 7 or above won't support the new API. Therefore it will stop working. Yes this is crap ![]() The only work around I can think of is running Youtube in a web browser that supports HTML5. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/04...old_smart_tvs/ |

You cant update an iPhone 3GS to beyond iOS 6.1.6. That version of Safari wont work on HTML5.
Google say that iOS devices that aren't upgradable to iOS 7 will still work via Safari though. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6098135 |

Are there a lot of adverts in YT videos?
When i read YT comments, a common complaint is the number of ads Surely they don't put an ad. in the middle of a song. I was told that iphone 3's can't have the reqiured ios (6 or 7) needed to run the app |

No, the ads are at the beginning of music videos.
It isn't a huge irritation. Most of the ads you get with music videos you can skip after 5 seconds. The YouTube app will no longer work on iOS 6 it seems, so for the 3GS the only option will be to watch in Safari. |

Sadly technological obsolescence is an issue for many platforms not just Apple. Developers are simply unwilling to support technology much beyond 2 years sometimes even less. Android is particularity patchy. Apple is quite good on the other hand.
The iPhone 3GS was first released in June 2009 and was discontinued in September 2012. The iPhone 4 is stuck on iOS7 and im not sure how much time is left for the 4S and 5. Apple have already moved on to 64 bit architecture as of the iPhone 5S so future development of older versions of iOS may stagnate sooner rather than later. |
