What happened to Lady Gaga's career in the U.K?
The Fame/Fame Monster - 2,896,724
Just Dance #1 Poker Face #1 LoveGame #19 Paparazzi #4 Bad Romance #1 Telephone #1 Alejandro #7 Born This Way - 986,847 Born This Way #3 Judas #8 The Edge of Glory #6 You and I #23 Marry the Night #16 Artpop - 207, 243 Applause #5 Do What U Want #9 G.U.Y #115 As you can see, she hasn't had a #1 single in the U.K. since 2010. Her album sales have also dropped quite a lot. What happened? Did people become bored of her antics? Did she become overexposed? Did her music lose its spark? In 2011 Born This way (the single) entered and peaked and peaked at #3 (behind Chipmunk and Jessie J) despite only being released at the end of the week. Why didn't it move up in its second week? It remained at #3 behind Jessie J and Adele. Applause entered at #5 despite being on sale nearly a week and sold half of what Born This Way did in its first week in 2011. Born This Way (the album) sold 215,639 copies in its first week in the U.K. Artpop sold 65,608 copies. Cheek to Cheek peaked at #10 last year with first week sales of 10,469 copies, but it has yet to reach silver certification. Obviously the album is something a little different for Lady Gaga but there's no denying its sales are a little disappointing. Do you think she will turn things around with her next album? Does she need to? |

I believe that people just don't understand her. She is the most talented artist nowadays - singing, writing, producing, acting, music videos. Her career started waning after the Alejandro video because of the religious references which many people were offended then Born This Way happened which put more people off. It was the media that actually went against her which made people actually dislike her.
Yes, you may I am biased since I am still a 'Monster' however, I am still open to critique Gaga where needs be however I don't need to do so as often because I find her enjoying to watch and prosper as an artist. Her voice seems to be getting better with each album. I could just listen to her voice all day. Her music seem to be more interesting. Her best album - in my opinion - has to be ARTPOP because it means so much too me. I just wish people would look outside the box at her metaphorical career (cringey I know). Almost everything she does stands for something especially her songs. That is why people are put off because people don't understand her. |

The way she seems to thing her music is some sort of artistic masterpiece when Artpop is full of plain average pop songs.

Born this way is good and has meaning. A shame that she hasn't produced anything good since

I would debate about ARTPOP however, art is subjective

Hence why she should let the people judge rather than forcing it on you.
The thing is she doesn't force it on you. She tries to explain her creative madness which is shown throughout the album. People are put off by this |

She became too big for her boots, went too weird (the vomit performance was the final straw for me) and her music became average-to-poor.

She lost the general public during the Born This Way era. She just became too weird and the public haven't been interested since.

Almost everything she does stands for something especially her songs. That is why people are put off because people don't understand her. Artists third albums are always difficult but the relentless overhyping the entire debacle of it's an entire media experience and making out it was going to be something spectacular just didn't deliver. Her website making announcements then not delivering and followed by several delays, the same happened with Cheek to Cheek, the entire Artpop 2 saga. People lost interest in her because they actually couldn't relate to her. Whilst having a fan base is important your casual buyer makes up the majority of sales and they are less forgiving. The little monsters fan base also caused her to be alienated due to the extreme level of abuse some of her fan base were trolling others. The constant being a victim and blaming others for the Artpop debacle. The list could go on and on but I don't think it was any one specific thing but an accumulation of many. I agree people don't understand her and I think it's because she doesn't have an identity as an artist but has tried to be too many things at one given time and too many artistic styles which has made her look like a hypocrite on so many occasions. I do think she is talented in many ways and I think she will continue to have a career but she peaked to superstardom so quickly that it was inevitable that her fall was going to just as quick. |

Perhaps her videos got too blatantly satanic after Bad Romance?

I think she failed to understand the more outrageous she became, the more boring the act was. The worse the music got, the bigger the hype and ultimate disappointment.

this subject has been done to death.
the answer is simple, her music is just not as good on a commercial level as when she first started out. she is still superbly talent and knocks most of the other artists around out of the park. maybe she will have another number one, maybe she wont. female artists especially seem to go through leaps and bounds. either way i still enjoy her music and loved artpop. |

She peaked too early and she hasn't really released anything decent or a while. The Fame/Monster is hands down her best album. I liked Born This Way as well but I thought it was a bit messy and pretentious in places and ARTPOP is just awful bar a couple of songs. I have the album but I rarely listen to it and I've never once listened to it in full.
