Taylor Swift (1989) is louder than ACDC (Back In Black)

Quote:
“1989 hits a dynamic range of six — DR6 — meaning it’s been crushed to the point where the noticeable difference between the high and low ends is greatly reduced. Back in Black clocks in at DR12, while Bollocks, Spades, and The Black Album all hit DR11.”

In other news that will surprise no one who knows about the loudness wars, Metallica's Death Magnetic is the loudest of them all

They are talking about the loudness wars. It is demonstrable that 1989 is more compressed and less dynamic in it's mastering than Back in Black.

Od course this idiocy only applies to CD.

1989 hits a not unreasonable DR of 13 on vinyl.

It should also be noted that it is likely that it only applies to the original pressings of Back In Black or Brothers In Arms.

Ian Shepherd will be on BBC Radio 4 at 10pm to discuss this

Get the vinyl copy of 1989 and compare that one.

Impressive? The results are it sounds flipping awful! Over compressed music results in me having to turn the volume down because it is so nauseating.
