I started watching Doctor Who in 2010, so Deep Breath was the first live episode I really enjoyed.

The episodes at the bottom had some good moments too, but I don't like Matt Smith, and his ridiculous doctor portrayal really put me off at times. If someone more talented and likable was playing the doctor at the time, I probably would've enjoyed those episodes a lot more than I did.

Eleventh Hour for me,following such a popular Doctor, Matt really had to make an immediate impact and I thought he nailed it.

I was so anxious about series 5, I managed to arrange it so that my wife and stepdaughter (both post-2005 converts) were busy elsewhere, when the first episode aired. I was half-convinced that some of the magic would have been lost, and wanted to spare my loved ones from the disappointment (and, naturally, myself from the embarrassment).
Of course, that wasn't to be. "The Eleventh Hour" is still one of my favourite episodes, and it's the reason I got something in my eye when little Amelia appeared during Matt's final scene.

As for The Impossible Astronaut...
As absurd as it sounds, I'd dreamed about this episode, prior to the show's relaunch in 2005. Having seen other vintage TV shows resurrected, around that time, with varying degrees of success, I was having a hard time persuading my then-fiancee and daughter to watch. (I didn't much rate "Rose", as it turned out; but thankfully they loved it!)
A few nights prior to the relaunch, I found myself dreaming about the new version of Doctor Who (yes, sad, I know). I envisaged a frankly bizarre production, where nothing much happened, with people sitting around waiting for "The Doctor" to arrive. The setting was something like the "Kung Fu" TV series, in the American Wild West; characters were cast into shadow by the setting sun, as they waited. And waited. And nothing much happened at all, except that someone got shot.
Imagine my relief when "Rose" turned out to be nothing like the load of old hogwash I'd dreamed about!
...and then imagine my horror when it all came true, several years later. Well, sort of.

Main problem for me with Eleventh Hour was the rubbish spaceship with the big eye ball. Spoilt the whole episode.

Really? I thought it was pretty impressive.

It did feel a bit cheap - Prisoner Zero in 'natural form' even more so. Ouch! That looked awful even by 2010 standards.

It looked fake on the DWA cover (I used to collect DWA at the time) but I actually think it looked alright in the show itself.

I quite agree! Freema was not that good at all during Series 3. Even my parents thought she was below average in the way she acted.

And her voice! Oh, it grated on me! I seem to remember it was "Oh, Doctor!" this, and "Oh, Doctor!" that, a lot of the time. She was so shouty and screamy.

When she said, "I'll see you again, mister!" towards the end of The Last of the Time Lords, I was like, "No! Please! We're not going to see her again, sometime, are we? Why couldn't they have killed her off?"

Just as I feared, she appeared again in DW, in Series 4 for the two part Sontaran story about Luke Rattigan and the ATMOS devices. Then to my horror, she was in the Doctor's Daughter, followed by yet another two parter, this time featuring Davros and his new batch of Bronze coloured Daleks.

Then she appeared in the closing moments of The End of Time, just before the Doctor got back to his Blue box to regenerate.

Who can forget Martha in Torchwood too?: o My parents and I have had just about as much as we can take of Martha Jones. If she ever comes back, it'll be too soon!

IMO, Martha Jones has to be one of the worst Doctor Who characters ever, along with Melanie Bush and Victoria Waterfield.

Strange really, as Freema was brilliant in Law and Order UK. Love that show! Seen every episode, and have got every series that's been out on DVD so far.
