I'm not annoyed, just hoping they won't be away for too long after it.

I think it's for the best. Both characters have been damaged by 'death by a thousand cuts' since they returned and it may be better to be away until the Carter obsession blows itself out and someone with a love for the characters and imagination can do something worthwhile with them. Kat was such an interesting character when she first burst onto the scene. I would like that back. Not for her to have what should be massive storylines like being the victim of arson and a suicide attempt playing second fiddle to the return of Dean Wicks and some bald bloke.

This, basically. There is no room for interesting and dynamic characters while the Carters are getting 90% of the screen time. The fact that the episode with Kat's suicide attempt, arguably her biggest story in years, ended with Dean returning to the Vic summed it up very neatly.

I was really getting interested in Kat again for the first time in years but the story just seemed to fizzle away. The impending lottery win feels like a cheap plot device in the circumstances.

Sort of. I think Kat and Alfie's return was superfluous to the show, as they've just been on the together/seperated roundabout again. I was very happy with Kat's storyline over the last couple of months, but ultimately it's thrown them together again too soon.

I would be happy to see Kat back again, but I think they'll either return together or just stay away. If that's the case, then so long as they get a decent ending, I can live with that.

I've always had a soft spot for Kat, so it's hard to see her pushed aside for Denise Van Outen (terrible actress), Phil's latest power play, another Roxy/Ronnie's husband affair, or dull Les playing away from home.

I agree - Kat had a best storyline in a decade. Yet for some reason the producers felt we need more Carter scenes and more Carter nonsense the following week reducing Kat to 5% screen time.

If It had been Linda attempting to kill herself because of the rape you can guarantee we would have had a whole week of the event and a whole week of the aftermath from every angle and from every Carter point of view. And then, go on about it for the next month on screen so its never forgotten about.

The way the other characters get treated is appalling and I hope more actors quit this excuse for a programme at the moment!

I'm not mad but I am sad that they're leaving and I will miss them but I am looking forward to seeing them in the spin-off and whatever screen-time they have left.

I agree that a break might do them good as they do tend to go round in circles and DTC concentrates mostly on the Carters so other characters play second fiddle.

Kat and Alfie will be leaving Walford in June and I think it's a huge shame that Kat and Alfie won't be on the show for at least 6 months. Shane Richie is filming "Moving On" and he seems to be busy doing other things now.

I really hope it was Jessie and Shane's decision to have a long break. I'm a bit worried that the spin off show could be the last time we will see Kat and Alfie.

Having said this, I'm really looking forward for Kat's journey and she will face her demons.”

I don't want want Alfie back on the show.

If they chose to leave I respect that, if DTC has pushed Jessie Wallace off the show I'm incredibly annoyed. Kat is an EE icon and Jessie is one of their best actors - I would be completely perplexed if DTC doesn't value her.

Since Live Week EE has been struggling with only two stories generating a strong positive response on social media - Stan's death and Kat's suicude attempt. Kat has been one of the few good things about EE in recent times so getting rid of her over so many others seems illogical.

Phil and Max are two of my favourite characters but both are far more tired than Kat is right now - the whole Mitchell family is feeling tired. The Branning and Beale families both feel like they've fallen apart, the Masoods don't work without Zainab even though I like Tamwar with Nancy, Roxy is going round in circles, Dean and Buster are wrecking the Carters - so much isn't working right now but Kat IS working. Of all the people to dispense with right now Kat just doesn't make any sense and Jessie has been giving some excellent performances. It's only been Stan's death and Kat's story that have been holding EE together. Kat is still an interesting character.

I'm really baffled and disappointed.

I agree completely with this. I'm not sure why anybody who cares for either Kat or Alfie would even want them to stay under this EP. Much better for them to leave now and let a producer who is invested in either of them bring them back in the future.

The whole cheeky chappy thing, which I suppose was moderately appealing to some people when he was in his last stint, is just embarrassing from a man in his 50s.”

That's pretty much how I feel. Jessie Wallace is a good actress and the Kat character still has the potential to develop after all these years. She's really underused though and they're making her very one-dimensional. I'd like to see her become the Pat Butcher/Evans of the 2020s and 30s.

Alfie just gets on my whatsits. He's a one-trick pony and needs to go.

Me too. It's great news, should have happened ages ago. The only thing that disappoints me is that they may come back.

I also hope it was Jessie and Shane's idea to take a break too.

I think sometimes it's good to have a re-set for characters, especially those like Kat and Alfie that have had so much screen time and big storylines.

I think this break could be the making of them. The characters are only wallowing around in misery at he bottom of the heap at the moment. This could completely rejuvenate their characters and give them a new purpose.

In all likelihood they will end up broke again (even if they do win the lottery) but it would actually be quite refreshing if they went on a voyage of discovery and came back with some purpose, perhaps centred on helping other people.

Quality analysis Rich. Hopefully they never ever come back ever.

Including and since the fire, the writing for them both has been horrible. I can see why people think their entire stint since 2010 has been generally crap but I think the baby swap was a good plot, the "Who's The Shagger?" plot was watchable and their reunion at the airport was a lovely moment.

It would be nice to see them back one day but not under the current EE team. If that means a wait of a few years, so be it. I have a feeling there's no plans for them to come back following the spin-off. If it's successful, the actors will be happy picking up presumably similar wages for less work than EE by doing a second series of the spin-off. If it bombs, then both Jessie and Shane might feel it's time to say goodbye to Kat and Alfie for the foreseeable future aka until they're broke.

Kat needs a break, her whole stint has been largely rubbish and the current team has no interest in her.
I hope to god the awful Alfie is never seen or heard from again in the show.

The characters need new life, they are currently a pathetic pair of juvenile acting middle aged fools

I'm annoyed as it would have been expected that they would be on screen until September, and I don't know what the current storyline team think they are achieving by hushing it all off and shuffling them off sooner than that. They're just flushing more storyline potential down the toilet, the same way as they did with both the aftermath of the fire and suicide attempt. Kat should have been seen meeting some of Harry's victims and giving a statement, but it doesn't look like she will. If the reason for that is because it's picked up in the spin off, I fear it'll be disjointed because of the lengthy screen absence before it airs.

I agree, it's so frustrating. Everytime it looks like Kat is going to be given an interesting story it just disappears yet there are so many boring, repetitive storylines that are given screen time instead.

It was said there was going to be a massive story for Kat involving Harry and the other victims coming forward and yet there has hardly been anything at all. Lots of people thought this sounded potentially really interesting and they've completely wasted it.

I can't believe Kat is leaving so soon when they've barely even scratched the surface of her story.

The problem with this spin off is that it had to happen soon for viewers to watch or care.

Early 2016 most viewers will have forgotten about them, thinking they left, forget about any spin off, therefore poor viewing figures and that will probably be that

Viewing figures will be interesting. I like Kat but nothing would get me watching a programme in which Alfie Moon is one of the stars. Genuinely no idea whether others (outside DS) agree or whether they'll lap it up. I suppose it depends what sort of promotion it gets as well as whether there are links to the plots in the main show.

Them leaving is not a problem.

Them coming back is a problem.
