I've not seen anything like this on twitter, but there will always be something not to someones taste, best to ignore it

I haven't read this whole thread, but I will also say that as a writer (and initial founder way back in 2006) in the appreciation thread, please do not think that we think Linda is in any way to blame. Dean is a rapist, that is a fact.

We hate the fact that DTC used Dean for this storyline.

Generalisations of points that are to do with certain scenes should not be used to make us out that we are on Dean's side. There is only one side - that's Linda's.

Any fans who post on any of the appreciation threads are obviously fans of the character and many (there are a few threads in particular) are devoted fans because after spending a couple of hours a week watching certain characters, they can become favourites and you want to discuss them in any way possible.

No one has ever tried to make out that Linda was to blame, the only discussions have been on what TPTB are trying to do with his character in terms of how they are writing him and this is open to interpretation.

I actually find it quite insulting for the appreciation thread to be brought up in this way. Maybe people should read it first before commenting and bringing DS users into a discussion on such an important topic.

One final point - the fact that there are people (apparently according to the OP) on twitter trying to defend Dean and actually try to say that Linda did anything wrong says one thing to me... This is why Eastenders wrote this storyline - there is still so much for people to understand about such important issues in society.

If you re-watch, Danny Dyer was booing him and laughing so Matt was laughing back at him.

Thank you Sez Babe. I also posted a similar comment earlier.

Wow. That is actually really bad and very damaging especially since most of the people tweeting these thoughts are in their formative years. They need to take Dean off our screens now and do it properly.

Imdb is one of the worst offenders regarding sick rape defenders. The latest thing I read there was from a guy claiming he had no sympathy for the "whiney" victim, but he had sympathy for the murderer/rapist because he was a virgin. He claimed that women should be "kinder" to men to avoid rape and that "spreading your legs for a couple of minutes" isn't a big deal. Don't even bother with the Game of Thrones board.

Some people wonder why I'm a bit misanthropic.

Jesus christ, that's disgusting. What is wrong with people.

Yeah, I'm a Game of Thrones fan, but I avoid a lot of the discussion boards because of the nature of these kinds of discussions. Unfortunately, rape is still a tremendously misunderstood crime in the world and victims of rape get blamed the way that most other victims do not. It seems like the first instinct of some when hearing of rape is, "What did she do to deserve it?" instead of actually holding the rapist accountable.

Twatter is hardly a place for rational thought, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It just reminds you how there are still a lot of people out there, who are so ignorant and backwards towards things like rape. Let them enjoy their ignorance, they'll learn the hard way.

Not being a Twitter user, I don't know (and don't care) what is being said. I do, however, think that the negativity against Linda (and Mick) is purely down to the fact that they are a pathetic, poorly acted soap couple, it's the characters that people do or don't like, not the crime that has been commited. If we are expected to have sympathy or understanding for murderers in a soap Bobby/Jane, Ben, Jay the accomplice, Ronnie etc and continue to watch them without constantly booing and hissing at the telly, then surely that attitude can be applied to any fictional crime. I'm fairly sure that most sane people wouldn't have the same casual attitude to rape if their next door neighbour was attacked.
