Great post. Unfortunately, you have highlighted many reasons why I will soon be turning off.

It's not just the Carters either! It's Groundhog Day all over the square:

Sharon issuing Phil his 100th ultimatum, which he ignores for the 100th time.

Phil feuding with someone of whom he will undoubtedly own.

Kat and Alfie merry go round..

Charlie is Jack part 2.

We seriously need some story progression. And 're the Carters, TPTB's desire to keep Matt DA/Dean is what is ruining them.

Ha ha i've got an official snippet from the script for 23rd January 2016:

Dean: Leave it dad, there's no point. No one wants me round here.
Buster: What you gonna do then, just throw in the towel? No son of mine does that
Dean: What more can I do? Everyone thinks i'm scum. Everywhere I go, they look at me in the same way.
Buster: You can't give up Dean. Tell him Shirl.
Shirley: He's right Dean. You've come this far.
Dean: I'm leaving. Tonight. I'm going to go and stay with Carly.
Shirley: Wait, what? Dean, you can't!
Dean: I'll make a new life for myself. A new name, new business, everything. I'm through with this place.
Shirley: Dean, no! Buster, please!
Buster: Oi! [GRABS HIM BY THE SCRUFF OF THE NECK] No you don't boy! Look at yourself, you aint a quitter, you're a Carter!
Dean: Get off me dad. I'm leaving.
Buster: No you're not. Now you all listen to me. We have nothing to be ashamed of. No one can drive us out of our own home. Shirley, you own half that place.
Shirley: It makes no difference Buster, i'm outnumbered.
Buster: Not with us two, you're not. Here's what we're going to do. We're going to go into our local boozer with our heads held up high.
Dean: What, like we've already done fifty million times? Each time, we end up the same. On our own, with nothing.
Buster: Well not this time, alright?
Shirley: Buster, they'll just kick us out.
Buster: You watch em try. Now, are you two with me or not?
Dean: I dunno dad.
Buster: Oi, United front, you hear me? [SILENCE] Well?
Shirley: [SIGHS] United front.
Dean: United front.
Buster: Good lad. Now, ladies first.

After enjoying it at Christmas (having not watched for years), I was happily pleased with it, and continued watching up until a couple of weeks ago. I've since then given up again - and stick with my main two on ITV!
EE has become hard work to get interested in any of the characters or their misery.
At least we get more varied characters on the street or in t'village

At least the Carter's groundhog day only goes back months. Groundhog day for Phil, Ronnie and Roxy, Max and Kat and Alfie goes back years. A bit of balance would have been nice.

Same here. Also I'm going to be complaining as ee should not be run like this.
Honestly Dtc is ruining it. His storie may be better who the storytelling and favoritism is much worse and outweighed the good.

I would watch Groundhog Day with Bill Murray on a loop. I couldn't watch the Carters on a loop. I laugh at the number of times they go over and over the same script. I have heard of paper recycling but that doesn't mean you can reuse the same script every week!

More like decades - here are his storylines.

1. Own a younger bigger fitter 'hardcase'.
2. Own a gangster.
3. Recover instantly from comas/car crashes/addictions/heart disease/gunshot wounds.
3. Inevitably be victorious in feuds/fights/poker/pool.
4. Attract women out totally out his league and then treat them like the s*** on his shoe.
5. Destroy any character he comes into contact with.
6. Pantomime laugh.

Rinse and repeat forever.

After watching many sci-fi shows - I have discovered the way to stop this 'Time-Loop' - it is a case of killing off the prime cause of everything - PHIL MITCHELL! If he is killed off, ( years ago!) the natural cause of eventualities will continue in their natural way and everyone will stop fighting and maybe find peace again.
Hmm...who has a Tardis??

I think the writing for the rape storyline being cack is ruining the Carters more than keeping the character of Dean tbh. But I'm sure when he goes it'll be easier rectify the situation.

But I agree with all your other points, I'm so bored of Philth. If I was EP i'd get shot.

I'm sick to death of Mick threatening Dean. I used to like him but now I just want him to shut up whenever he speaks.

Mostly agreed. I'm sick of him owning men who could wipe the floor with him. He and Sharon belong in panto. Their scenes ruin Eastenders for me. I'm so fed up with Mitchells other than Ronnie and Roxy. How old is Phil now? Of course there are older, clever criminals in real life but they often have hardcase sons to help. Ben and Jay as henchmen and Sharon telling people "it's time for you to leave" on rinse and repeat drives me nuts! I'm well peed off that Phil got the better of Max. I did like Denise Van Outen as his accomplice though. I'd like her to return and become a regular. She sounds the part and is a very attractive woman. Maybe she could jump into bed with Phil until Kathy returns. I like her acting. I don't know why so many people didn't like her as "Karin". If Phil sticks around I'd like to see him with a debilitating illness that affects his physical health and prowess. Maybe he could be confined to a wheelchair for a while and be scared witless. Surely that's better than his owning people all the time. I think Steve McFadden would do such a story justice. He could really get his teeth into a new direction like a serious illness. Unfortunately I imagine he would recover in a week and would run over Vincent in his wheelchair while laughing

Just to add to my previous post, it's Max who magically attracts women way out of his league. Admittedly "Karin Smart" was a more or less a hooker and was paid to seduce him but all of his women have been stunners. Tanya, Vanessa, Kirsty, "Karin", Stacey, Lucy and Emma and whoever else he's slept with. I don't think Phil's conquests match up to Max's lovely ladies

I agree, I just think if Dean hadn't been involved then we wouldn't be seeing the repetitive writing now. It was bad enough last year when we had Mick's 'what's wrong L' rehashed 2-3 times each episode. Once Dean has gone, the story can progress but tptb seem intent on keeping him and it's an serious misjudgement on their part.

It does feel like every episode, for 90% of characters, is just on loop, it feels like DTC is just waiting for the 'big' Kathy return and therefore everything else is just going round and round to fill in the gaps until then.

As well as the Carters, Max, Phil, Sharon, Ronnie, Roxy, Charlie, Kat, Alfie are all just going round in circles, the Carters just seem to get more flack about it.

Let's have the return of drunk Phil or something - give him something better to do - the characterisation last year of characters like Kat, Phil, Shirley was very good but this year they seem to have just gone from one extreme to the other with no balance or middle ground like they used to have. And I actually find this new Stacey - dull, really dull. (Unpopular opinion but there you have it!)

I don't watch any of the main Carter scenes now. I watch Lee and Nancy and Linda when she's away from the boring central Carter Drama but the rest I just ignore. They are completely stale after such a short time

Don't blame you. I watch Tina aswell and Shirley outside of the storyline but anything Shirley/mock/rape yawn and my attention goes elsewhere. Mick is the main problem with scenes. Dean should also go for mists viewers sake but mick also needs to leave. He brings them all down.
