Ringer problem on iPad Air on iOS 8.3

Since I updated my ipad Air (1st gen) to the latest 8.3 I've had problems with the alarm/notification ringer not working. Volume on video, radio is ok.
When the iPad is on home screen, a ringer on/off icon appears and disappears constantly for a few seconds, although this fault is intermittent.
I use the Alarmed app (it's brilliant) and none of its notification ringtones work any more.
Set an alarm to wake us up 2 days in a row which didn't sound.

I can't face an Apple store and a whole iPad reset - any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem since updating? thanks

If you are already backing up to iCloud then a backup, wipe and restore isn't too painful.

Presume you have tried holding down the on/off button top right together with home button? Hold until you see apple logo and let go. This usually fixes most problems.

tried that as, as you say, it's a great problem solver. Not this time.
No, not totally backed up in the cloud. thanks anyhow

sorted it. It was buried in the iPad's various sound settings. They were all on, but what worked was dragging up from the bottom of the lock screen, then toggle the mute icon (which was off and greyed out) to 'on', then 'off' again.
Basically, just find all and any sound settings on the iPad by all means possible, and toggle them off and on until it's sorted. Thanks Apple....
HTH someone else who has the same problem.

Mine did this week or so ago but it was the volume icon that would not fade away. A quick reboot thing you do with the off button and home button sorted it. Hope it's working now
