The culprit faked his death? So I assume Viv will just finish the job but framing it like she's covering up for him is such a poor way to create drama.

Joy and/or Dinah will be complicit and next series Tina Malone will play an abrasive Scouse investigator looking in to the circumstances

I wonder if this was written before Broadchurch aired? If not it's lazy to go down the "female officer doesn't see killer under her nose" route. The underlying message being "women: what are they like? Can't separate from their emotions, blah blah, shouldn't be given the important jobs blah, blah". Don't think I've seen a male officer missing his serial killing wifey in a drama!

Anyway, don't think it's been mentioned. As Viv walked back to her office a colleague said I've put the file on your desk. Viv enters her office to see her husband there and quickly looks at the file on her desk. Surely it crosses her mind that he had seen the file with his real name and details on the front of it and so would obviously have read it. So he knows she's on to him. Interesting to see how it will end next week.

Maybe Viv will come back demoted or as a civilian worker who has to earn respect and deal with orders more. I've worded that terribly, I know, but hopefully you can see what I mean.
You don't just demote officers who assist murderers.

This isn't real life though.

I will be very surprised if she covers it up.

It would be a complete travesty of her personality.

If she let's him get away with it, it isn't just that he has already killed but that he could kill again and again.

.................They also new that Killer 2 had visited the flat and removed something which is why they were continually searching it...................
A very lazy plot device. Removing an item draws attention to it, so all that's necessary is for the investigator to find out what was there. Leave it where it is, and nobody will notice it.

If they are so inattentive as to not notice it was there, why would they be so attentive as to notice it was gone? As it happens, it was a music CD, so knowing one had been in the machine and wasn't any more doesn't help them identify which CD it was. Leaving it there would risk it being found, if not by forensics, then when the room was cleared.

Didn't the removal leave a gap in the row of CDs? And luckily the policeperson had an extremely HD photo of the rack as it was earlier. Leaving the CD there, it would simply be one among many.

Taking the CD out of the player, putting back into its case, and leaving the case in its place might have been best. Leaving it in the player was dangerous, though. It was quite likely to get noticed there eventually.

Maybe he is being set up and Viv has realised which of her colleagues has planted the evidence. Possibly she plans to force their hand and expose them when they think they've got away with it.

Or perhaps he's involved but protected by someone in the police.

Cathy seemed to recognise the touch, maybe the hard fingertips of a guitarist/labourer as he passed her at the music venue. Maybe it's one of his bandmates.

Still plenty of options that fit the characters as developed so far.

It was his smell she recognised. She had said previously she remembered his smell and about the smell of him all over her.

Regarding the tune being the link: I think they commented that the neighbour playing the tune was autistic and that was why he was playing the same tune repeatedly? They seem to be suggesting that the tune was playing in Patrick's flat (as it was a song on the CD from Viv's husband's band), and the neighbour listened to it and then played it himself.

I thought the opposite - the suggestion being that the neighbour was playing Crockett's Theme over and over to the extent that it had planted itself subconsciously into Viv's husband's brain. Happens to me all the time with stuff from the radio, not always with tunes I even like

Well, he is definitely Sean - the guy second killer had a crush on who 'died' (faked his own death) may years before. And Cathy recognised his smell. Maybe it is a co-incidence him having a sister with Down's who died in mysterious and similar circumstances (drowning) to the killer's methodology.

Unlikely it is anyone but him but I hadn't thought about bandmates who conceivably could have a similar smell - perhaps he confided in one who then used Killer No 2's affection for Sean/Viv's Hubby to help him?

Extremely convoluted but would be an interesting twist! Though I am not fond of the 'killer is someone we never heard of' ending.

I have my fingers firmly crossed that it doesn't go the way of The Fall or (worse still) Broadchurch. I enjoyed the first series of both, massively disappointed with both second series.

I don't think it will.

There was a lot of good in No Offence and on the whole I enjoyed it. But there is also a heck of a lot of room for improvement. And with a few tweaks - mostly around dialogue & acting so nothing insurmountable - it could be fantastic.

Although after next week I may withdraw my praise

Good news. It took a couple of episodes to find its feet but it has developed into one of the freshest programmes on British TV.

Now we just have to wait for the inevitable American remake...

I'm enjoying it as a kind of League of Gentlemen meets Shameless sketch - it has as much plausibility but is still very watchable

HTF did Cathy get in the car lol
