Not on a BMW 325i of that era. It had a solid metal bulkhead between the boot and the rear seat.
That's a prime example of taking a show too seriously.

All these murders remain undetected. How much Police time would be wasted investigating them ?

The Inspector will have wasted 1000's of Police hours and a shed load of money just to save her embarrassment.
I might be getting this completely wrong, but isn't it the case that Patrick who died in the car crash took the rap for the murders? It was case closed. It was only Dinah who didn't believe he'd done it, and then Cathy who said there was more than one man. Did anyone else know the case had been re-opened other than Dinah and Viv?

So I think the families will think Patrick did the murders, and paid with his life.

Did not the three women in Scott & Bailey cover up a crime also?
Interestingly, I was put in mind of Scott and Bailey because of a scene in the last episode. There was a point in the Police Station where a plain clothes Policeman walked across the back of the office, slightly out of focus, but it looked for all the world like Tony Mooney who plays Pete (Readyough. Who knew?!) in S&B!

In-joke maybe? (if it was him, or if it was a double?)

The problem was ...

Dinah said she wanted Cathy to see justice done but caved in very quickly.

What about the families of the other victims and THEIR right to see justice done ? They would have to live and die always thinking that their daughters' killer had just walked free.

It was a very very bad call on Viv's part.

I would have liked her to dob him in...and then it would have been ok for him to somehow die horribly anyway.

e2a - and yes, I agree with Sulla. Presumably the police will have to carry on investigating the case wasting police time and money.
No, the police, the families and the general public all thought it was Patrick who murdered the girls - working on his own. Until Cathy had her flashback no one else knew there was a second person involved. And then it was only Dinah and Viv and they decided to keep it quiet believing it must be someone with inside info.

But when was that? Before they caught Patrick / handyman? Spike was particularly keen to catch Patrick because he was the one who failed to spot his cat tattoo ...

Wouldn't rest until they got the killer of Laurie / Sean.

To be fair to Viv ( re whether to dob in him or do him in), she was texting Dinah to say bring him in. So she is now only keeping quiet because she thinks Dinah did it and Dinah is only keeping quiet because she knows Cathy did it.

Overall, I loved it, and each week enjoyed the individual stories as well as the story arc, but agree with everyone that on the final episode, we could have done without the distracting nurse / Jonah / coke story that didn't go anywhere. If they needed an excuse to get Viv out of the house, I'm sure that there were better plots than that.

Yes, Elaine Cassidy was the star of this. She's lovely.

The ending was a tad predictable but this is still the best police drama I've seen on British TV in recent years apart from Line of Duty.
I hope Elaine is at least nominated for a Bafta. What a performance!

He said it when the body was found late in the episode.

I think she got in herself to see what Dinah was up to and got out by pushing down the back seat armrest (we saw it being pushed) then presumably reaching through the gap to pop the rear seat catch to fold down the back of the seat which thus expands the boot area.
Oh right, all I remember seeing was Cathy kicking/banging to get out of the boot!

And how did Joy know where to find Dinah?

We saw Joy at the station looking at a 'bleep' on a map showing Dinah's location at Viv's house, I presumed it was gps on her phone?
Not sure, don't recall that one. I thought Joy was at the hospital just before the nurse was arrested and then went to Viv's, although I could be wrong!

Ah ok ... yes fair enough time will be wasted on looking for Laurie´s killer I suppose! Although for all Spikes good intentions as the leads die up the case will just be left open and unsolved. Maybe Viv will frame some other criminals for it who would have gone down anyway!

I must say I loveeeeeeeeed the series and in particular three women were given prominent parts though I don’t understand why Viv didn’t keep Joy in the picture when her and Dinah started to close in on the culprit.
Mainly to protect her, I think. If they'd got caught it would at best destroy the career of anyone involved. Also, Joy might have insisted on going public, especially as Dinah was trying to do the same, and Viv would have found it harder to override them when it was 2:1. And she just wasn't as close to Joy or have as much respect for her. She didn't expect Joy to figure it out on her own. I agree with you that Joy is capable, but the show's characters consistently underrate her.

I agree there was no reason for deciding to kill him - not so much a *twist* as bonkers, out-of-character stupidity.
They couldn't let him go free, and to turn him in would have caused a lot of problems, especially for Viv. She'd have to admit they were wrong about the Downs murders, and also that she'd been living with a serial killer for years and not twigged. Plus she was basically in love with him. Granted it was stupid, I wouldn't say it was out of character for the situation.

And then the other girls/women all conspire like it's an empowering act: 'we all gals together and we can do whatever we like'.
Dinah owed Viv for not destroying her career over the car accident she caused and didn't report. I think the relationship between the three women was strong and interesting. There was more to it than simply "all gals together".

I must admit Joy got herself wrapped right up in in despite having f#ck all to do with Dinah and Cathy offing him and Viv destroying evidence about him then covering up them murdering him. Wow, that's a big leap.....! Great show, though. One of the best I've seen in years. Watch the Yanks falling over themselves to make a copy of No Offence, just you wait.

At last the show's returning for a second series! It's back at 9 on the 4th of January. I loved the first series and hope that it'll not suffer the second album fate.

An interview with Joy/Alexandra Roach.

I too, was wondering about this the other day.

Went a bit silly at the end, but the journey wasn't too bad, hope it doesn't go off at the deep end again this series.
I'll probably have to read the thread again and refresh myself, I'll probably refresh the memories of the bits I didn't like though, but that can't be avoided.

I wish they had replayed the first series just before this new one. It was, maybe still is, on All4 but I can't watch anything without subs and none of the UK tv streaming shows have subs, although both Amazon Prime and Netflix do. Can never understand that. Us deaf'ns miss out a lot.

Like Ordinary Lies failed to deliver on series 2 - at least it appears to be same cast which is a good start.

Yes they do, ITV player, All 4 and my5 all have subtitles available. iPlayer has subtitles and audio description too.

BTW I've just checked and all 8 episodes are available on All 4 now if you want to catch up.

Thanks for that ever so. I must not have looked properly. You've made my viewing so much better with this news. Cheers.
