Really?
![]() Can you explain what you mean. I fondly remember HSB and can't really see any similarity other than it being a police drama. |

That was my thought as that seemed a bit staged. I wonder also if it could have been Cathy's boyfriend and that she was originally an accessory to the crimes and something went wrong and she ended up being attacked by him thereafter losing her memory.
No I think if it is the husband it´s a case of him feeling jealous and left out because she pays more attention to criminals / her job than to him. There have been plenty of comments / hints made about that right from the start, so it might be that he´s doing it all to get her attention ... in a very warped way of course! What happened in the first episode ... didn´t he leave a gift on her desk right by the pic of the first Down´s girl? I think I´m reading too much into it now as I quite like the idea of it being him

Well I think that covers just about everybody in the entire cast. Is there anyone we haven't accused?

Thought it was a really good episode tonight. Only thing that bothered me was when Christy left the police station. He was right next to viv? (Hopeless with names) You'd 'feel' someone move when they're that close and if not, Paul Ritter (can't remember character's name) would've seen him; he's not living in a vacuum he (ritter) would've known who he (christy) was.
Though it's billed as comedy drama I've never found any comedy in it but haven't minded as I enjoy it as a drama but I did actually laugh tonight - You wait 40 years for public morality then you get this mad bitch . Was Elizabeth having a baby elephant? Bl**dy hell!

It could be a classic case of misdirection but I reckon its someone who knows the psychologist. The camera just made sure to cut to her at the right time to suggest something.

Well you can´t say it isn´t full of twists and turns ... I really hope there´s an almightly twist at the end as it´s a great ride so be a shame if the pay off isn´t up to standard.
The tattoo is interesting as that kind of blows the theory of it being another officer or Viv´s husband out of the water ... And agree with the poster above about Elizabeth´s bump ... I just couldn´t take my eyes off it ... it was like they´d padded her out twice ... I kept expecting some kind of triplets revelation lol! |

Agree with an earlier poster that the cushion was a bit large for a normal pregnancy! I worked out the the bowling alley was a set up and the bad guy would go after Cathy. I think I have accused virtually everybody in the cast now though. Perhaps it is Colonel Mustard?
Still enjoying this as at least it is different. The accents are maddening though. |

The show's really grown on me! I knew it was the brother who has slashed him as soon as I saw him. Can't wait for next week now.

Still watching and enjoying this.
As others have said what was the caper with that baby bump on Elizabeth, that was OTT, was it supposed to be some sort of insider joke, can't think of any other reason for it. The case of the week was interesting too, got some depth to the story too. Not quite sure what Viv was getting at with the Irish Uncle and his business going's on, something shady, but wasn't clear (to me) what kind of shady. Thought we were going to flesh out a bit more of Dinah/Family and Cathy relationship, but nothing. She didn't sell anyone on the 'she's got my heart' thing, Cathy wasn't buying what she had to sell, anyway. |

Even the wooden-top plod should be able to work out that the killer must be someone who knew where Cathy was holed up and that the entire squad was on a stake-out at a bowling alley so this suggests a member of the local police force - or someone intimate with them - is the serial killer. Could it be that guy (the father of another cop - sorry, can't remember their names) who was banging the PC tasked with guarding Cathy in the loo at the police HQ? I jokingly suggested that last week but given the way this series is panning out it's less of a joke this week.
I think the comedic element - intentional or not - prevents the tension from building and the relationship between Dinah and Cathy is beyond inappropriate. I know northern police forces were slow off the mark with the grooming and sexual exploitation of kids but allowing a police officer to befriend and take home an emotionally damaged and sexually abused victim and form an intense attachment to her is not what one might call 'professional behaviour'. To understate it. |

I had an issue with the dialogue around the start as my subtitles decided to go on strike, so it took a while to grasp this week's story line and who was who, but once I did, it wasn't too bad. The episode on a whole was a decent one though, I can see how others guessed that that handyman/candyman was going to strike elsewhere considering the entire team of officers happen to be one location, but didn't guess that he would go after Cathy instead. I loved the role and sassy confidence of the downs girl, I could imagine her giving the suspected perpetrator a verbal and physical once over had he turned up!! And my goodness I also have to agree about Elizabeth's bump - was what that about?! She reminded me of a pregnant Kangaroo, certainly had the shape for it.

Twists and turns, yes I agree! I'm even wondering if 'handyman' (or was it candyman?) is the top cop guy (Viv's boss)!!

Cathy attacker at the warehouse did not seem that tall? Cathy boyfriend nearly overpowered him if he had not had the knife. Cathy stabbed her attacker with keys seemed to hit them in the eye. Surely a giuve away next week if anybody shows any signs they could hardly hide it.

Nice to see that The Offence (in Manchester) shares the same panda cars with VERA up in Newcastle. Same reg, same markings! (Vauxhall Astra).

Don't know how you notice such things. Do you know if both shows are from the same production company? - must be economising in these tough times.

A chaotic mix of crime and humour. There was always a mix of uniform and plain clothes. I loved HSB

Another cracking episode tonight.
Just one thing, can anyone tell me what we'd seen of Patrick Llewellyn previously ? I can't for the life of me remember but I know from IMDB the character was in episodes 3 and 4. |

I still really enjoy this show, but I think it's a lot better when it focuses on the main story, and isn't trying so hard to be funny. |

Am I missing something? (really enjoying the series by the way) - when the two PCs found the man beaten up I thought one of them looked up to see a silver car driving past at the end of the street, and they'd been told by one of the lads enjoying themselves in the bushes (
) that the suspect had driven off in a silver car - then it's on the tv that they man that was run over had committed all the murders - I was on my laptop at the time, so perhaps I should just have given full attention to the TV? ....

Not many posts tonight I see. I really enjoyed it in the end. Wasn't happy with a couple of minor things: wish they hadn't used the same trick as in the first episode - the guy 'running' from the police gets killed by a bus, only difference was he was in a car; there was no reason for Dinah not to think he was the only guy they were looking for; why the heck did Joy say 'where's he going' when Ajamu started to run off. I didn't let these things spoil it for me though.

The man driving the silver car was Patrick Llewellyn who later died after a lorry crashed into his car when he was reversing away from the cop car. He was involved with the rapes and killings of the Downs girls but was not acting alone (as we found out towards the end of the episode). |
