Help !

How do I alter my BT Youview box , so that it shows old 4:3 programmes as full screen, rather than having two black bars down the side of the pictures ? I cannot seem to be able to find a way to change the setting .

Does anybody have any suggestions ?

When I watch the same signal on my 42inch plasma it automatically adjusts the picture width so I know it looks okay for viewing.

Many Thanks
Paul

All Youview boxes only display programmes in their correct format. If you want to watch in stretchyvision you will have to use the zoom function on your tv

You could try using the SCART connection instead of the HDMI connection in combination with using the TV's aspect ratio controls.

Have tried using the stretchy functions n the TV, but it does not seem to apply it to the Youview signal.

The same TV signal pass through the Youview box and viewed via the Tv tunr doesget stretched ??

Some channels broadcast the picture with a signal to the tv to put in the bars - you can override these settings on your tv if you wish.

Some channels broadcast the black left/right bars as a part of the picture - and this you can not change with tv settings.

The left/right bars are meant to be seen - otherwise you are distorting the image just to fill the screen.

It's an HD thing and a TV thing. You can't do stretchyvision on HD channels unless your TV lets you specifically do it - and many don't. On SD channels, you should be able to set your TV aspect ratio to either 4:3 with side bars, or stretchyvision (called "full" on my panasonic plasma).

But the Youview box probably outputs everything at the 'correct' aspect ratio so you need to override it if you can on the TV.
