VHS to DVD Recording
Ok, so I have a plan this summer. To record all our old VHS recordings onto DVD before we lose them.
I started this a while ago with a DVD Recorder that is now used elsewhere, so I could get another model the same that I know well (plus a VCR), or I could get a VCR/DVD combi that records from VHS to DVD, but does anyone know where I can get one as cheap as possible and has anyone ever done this and can recommend a good machine for the job? Thanks. |

The Toshiba DVR 20 appears to have been discontinued and is only available second--user.
However, there is this bargain http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-DVR2.../dp/B003LO2RIU ![]()

Expensive
The Amazon link shows the price to be £2999 for a new machine and £295 for a second hand machine. All without a hard drive!!I have two RDXV60's which does the same but also includes a hard drive making it easy to edit material before burning to DVD.In regular use, they're brilliant and both cost less than the price being sought by Amazon. First one I bought was a refurb 3 years ago and cost £169.Latest one cost a fraction more but came with a 2 year warranty.

Now, is there a way I can hit record on the DVD recorder, play on the VHS and not connect to a TV until a later date - i.e leave it to do this whilst I am out and meanwhile others can use the TV to watch before I come home and cause havoc and be successful - i.e no blank recording? Or do I need a TV connected at all times.....what connections do I need - scart, aerials and white/yellow/red leads all available. I am playing now and when I connect to a TV to see what is recorded, it's all blank. Tried various scart connections (1 on VCR 2 available on DVD) and input as L1, L2 and PR1 - all failed! |

I did have a couple of VHS /DVD combos but both went kaput after a few years use.
One machine, the DVD went & the other one, the VHS went, & that machine is being finished off downstairs for playing DVD's. (By the way, does anyone know what the best way to connect this Toshiba machine, so it can be used to transfer SKY Plus HD recordings to DVD? I thought sticking the Scart lead from the AV2 on the SKY HD to the AV2 (as SKY & the telly are connected via HDMI) on the DVD was the obvious way, as I have something similar set up on my upstairs set up, but doing the same downstairs doesn't seem to work, unless I've missed something?) |

Hi Westy2 I am not 100% sure but i think the content on your Skybox is Copy Protected when recorded to the HDD. If you try to copy from the live feed as long as its not a movie or pay per view i think it will let you record to another Machine.Francis

If any of the programmes you recorded are available on DVD, then I'd just buy them instead. The quality obviously isn't going to be good this way.
