Of course it's a retcon! Do you honestly think John Yorke (who created the Slater family, and the Kat and Zoe storyline back in 2000/2001) had it planned from the start that Kat actually had twins when she was 14, but it wouldn't be revealed about Zoe's secret sibling until fifteen years down the line? Of course they didn't have this planned back then.

In the writers heads, Kat gave birth to Zoe, and that was IT. There was NEVER a secret twin in that existed in any of the writers heads, until DTC stepped in. If this was planned, it would've been revealed YEARS ago

But I do agree with some posters that nothing in Kat's history has actually changed, the writers have simply just added to it. But that still makes it a retcon, and a very big one at that

It's not a retcon . A retcon is complete changing a story. They've added another baby to the child she already had.

WTF!!? There is a twin? DTC has ruined my favourite EastEnders family and story by the sound of it.

It was an excellent episode. June Whitfield and Jessie Wallace were superb

I really don't care if it was Oscar worthy. It sounds like a load of old sh*t from a producer who has clearly ran out of ideas. (sub note: The aggression that can maybe be picked up from this comment is not aimed at you, lovely)

Not a bother JoP!

I think they'll have told her the baby died but it is causing consternation

I disagree with you but at least we can debate nicely

I doubt they planned that Den would have a secret son when they created the Watts, and we know that Stacey was not created at the same time as the Slaters..then there's Cora's secret daughter, Billy's secret son and granddaughter......

It's getting beyond a joke the re-writing of history but it's clear for some that a few episodes of sensationalism is worth the trashing of the programme. Kat forgetting she gave birth / Kathy abandoning her sons / Jane lugging her step daughter body and dumping it to be eaten by vermin. All in the last 3 months! Jumping the shark and the shark and the shark!

Shirley's and Shabnam's too. I do think they are overdoing it.

Not all retcons are a disaster. If they are fitting of the character and don't contradict what we already know and have seen, then I can swallow it. Den having a long lost son for instance is perfectly believable given his legendary womanizing ways and took nothing away from his earlier years.

Kat having another baby all those years ago is a dreadful retcon.

Sorry but if she had twins why wasn't this revealed during the Kat/Zoe sl. Don't even get me started if its bloody Sean Slater.

They are a tad. Strangely this is a twist I quite like. Oh, and I did like Alfie's cousin Michael.

I missed most of Michaels tenure as I couldn't bear his awful dad!

I wonder if Dom remembers Den's brothers, Ken and Len Watts?

Exactly.

It is only a retcon if it is changing something specifically stated or shown on screen. If we had seen Kat give birth to only one child, it would be a retcon. For example, they could not now say that Lola actually gave birth to twins in 2012 as we saw it happen on screen. That would be a retcon.

Of course Yorke did not have this planned when he created the Slaters. The Producer that killed Kathy off did not have it planned that she would return either.

It's only a retcon if it contradicts something previously shown to be true. It's never been proven on screen that she only had one child. It's only been shown that she only knew of one of them.

Doubt they wouldn't have went to all this trouble for the twin to die, Kat could have passed out after having Zoe as another op said she was only 14 confused and thought it was the afterbirth

Exactly. There's a clear different between retconning and dramatic/artistic licence; the whole story is not being unwritten. It's simply being furthered through an addition to the backstory to aid character development

BIB: We don't even know the circumstances of the birth of the twins yet?? We don't even know if Sean Slater is the twin?? The only people jumping the shark are the people in this forum.
