Lack of promotion/buzz this year?

It's May 2nd. The series starts on May 12th and I'd say 90% of viewers don't know that it is returning.

The forum is dead, there's no build up. The whole thing seems very rushed - why did they announce it with such short notice? Last minute decision?

People are used to Big Brother starting in June! They'd better start rolling out heavy promotion next week or I guarantee people aren't even going to realise it's starting 2/3 weeks earlier this year, especially during the busy exam period.

Are they doing countdown ads on C5? The BB ident? Any newspaper/magazine spreads?

10 days to go, they seriously need to get a move on!

The regular series is a sideshow to CBB these days unfortunately

Remember when the regular series was THE main event of the summer? These days its next to no effort and putting it together as they go along so they can get it out of the way and put the next batch of zlebs in there

Channel 5 must want rid of it.

They've stupidly renewed it until 2018(?). Another channel could've taken it and done a much better job and maybe even given us Live Feed.

They love the Celeb version.

Have C5 ever promoted BB?

Other than the first CBB C5 don't bother but then this is the channel that wanted the viewers but didn't want to give those viewers what they wanted, the channel that wanted the show but didn't want to invest in it.

C5's rip-off BB is pointless now, I loved this show and even in the bad C4 years I watched every episode, I have switched off 2 C5 BB's and I am not minded to even give this series a try.

I've only seen one trailer for it on Channel 5 so far. It'll probably pick up a bit, nearer the time but people are still feeling deflated after last year's farce and January's awful CBB. I know I'm not looking forward to it but I know I'm going to watch, in the hope it's not as disappointing as BB 15.

January's "awful" CBB did spectacularly well in the ratings for Channel 5. I doubt it's people feeling deflated.

There is a lack of buzz because Channel 5 seriously need to stop with the meddling and bring back live feed.

I remember when we use to see billboards and bus ads, then the 1 or 2 seconds flashes of the eye or the countdown during the ad breaks, plus the shows before it, etc.

It's sad but every person who watches BB knows when it's on now and then there's the fact that there's 3 series a year so you can't really miss it much. Also with the General Election going on - everyone's talking about that. Ah I dunno I just know I'm not that excited as I use to be.

Apart from the fact it's an exhausted show, there's simply no need for "big promotions" for anything on tv anymore. The age we're now in means everything gets to a massive audience in the blink of an eye - via facebook, twitter, trending feeds etc..

channel 5 do the celeb ones better,
the 'civilian' series is ruining the brand

It's been like this for a while now. No Channel 5 BB series has been heavily advertised.

How can the normal series ruin the brand? It is the brand. The celebrity edition is a spin-off, regardless of the fact that it is promoted a lot more. Without the civilian series, the celebrity series wouldn't be a celebrity edition, it would just be the series.

The civilian series is an embarrassment and a laughing stock these days and if it was axed it wouldn't even make page 24 of the Newspapers because the media doesn't give a shit about it.

Celebrity Big Brother though, is going really strong and there's been a massive buzz throughout the last few series. It could easily survive on it's own without terrible (but once great) Civilian version.

I mean I don't watch it, but what I've heard through casual conversation has sounded mostly negative. Not that that's representative of anything, of course.

I don't think there's been a buzz around BB since it's first outing on C5 for BB12.
Since then it's been rather damp.

Was there much of a buzz for BB12?

I know the launch had quite a buzz but then I think a lot of people switched off and then the only series I've seen people talking about is BB15 but for all the wrong reasons.

It seems to have a small fanbase consisting of new viewers (BB12+) and a few long time fans who are clinging on for dear life in hope it will change and some longtime fans who refuse to accept that it is no longer Big Brother (Not naming any names).

The buzz was mostly about it's return and after the launch it faded but BB12 wasn't a bad series really .. apart from the notable lack of Live Feed of course.
Since then I haven't seen any buzz for it's subsequent series returns though really.
The majority of viewers don't know it's starting again on May 12th and even fewer care that it is.

It appeared in my 'trending' on Facebook.

Of course, that may be tailored for what I look up, but then again a lot of the things that show up there have no interest to me at all.

I think it's 'sponsored' on FB, So they've paid to have it show up on everyone's news feed? Could be wrong though.

so many people on this forum are clueless about marketing....
you do not confuse people with heavy "talk" of a quick hit pop culture show" in a crowded message market place. they have begun to "warm" the plate for those committed fans via their recent social media activity.

1st... the media is already full of pr to report from shows like BGT that is on now.... so there is no space left to get a story into
2nd... this is a "flash" event.. you hook people with a hit at the time, and get them to switch it over.

this is not like advertising coke, where daily consumption is created by "reminding" of a brand and product they are already familiar, because there is no product to then sell them on the day yet.

C5 got the shows right since secrets and lies... viewing figures and the quality of advertisers are proof... there are however some on DS completely on their own planet - they are irrelevant thank f,.

Well if it is, that is still the producers paying to market the series, which in a sense goes against the suggestion of this thread (that they aren't bothered about promoting it at all).
