1st... the media is already full of pr to report from shows like BGT that is on now.... so there is no space left to get a story into
2nd... this is a "flash" event.. you hook people with a hit at the time, and get them to switch it over.

this is not like advertising coke, where daily consumption is created by "reminding" of a brand and product they are already familiar, because there is no product to then sell them on the day yet.

C5 got the shows right since secrets and lies... viewing figures and the quality of advertisers are proof... there are however some on DS completely on their own planet - they are irrelevant thank f,.”

Well said.

Sorry, but everything you've said is absolutely ridiculous.

Long running TV shows always promote the return of a new series long before a week in advance. Viewers need to know what DATE the show is coming back. Particularly when it normally starts in June and is now starting in May.

If they stuck X Factor on in May with advertising as poor as this, people wouldn't realise it's on. It doesn't matter how big the show is.

Game of Thrones, one of the biggest shows on television right now, had billboards all over advertising the new season and the date it's returning. Everyone who watches the show knew it would be coming back for a new season. But Sky ensured well in advance everyone knew what date it was airing, aswell as to generate some hype in advance.

In the past we had billboards, countdown adverts, etc. But suddenly since Channel 5 have picked up the show - that's unnecessary?

C5 have got the show right since Secrets & Lies?! You didn't watch last year then? The worst series of Big Brother of all time? Universally hated and didn't even rate well either. the only person you're going to get support from there is Dancc, who would sell his soul in defence of C5.

Resorting to personal digs says more about you than it does me I'm afraid.

Just because I don't subscribe to the extremely negative train of thought that became fashionable on here following the demise of the live feed, does not make me some sort of apologist.

I post what I think. I don't much care if you don't like what I have to say, but try to keep it respectful.

Last 2 civilian BB series we only got them 3 days before launch night.

Would be nice to have some newspaper aerial photos to speculate over.

Wrong. Secrets & Lies is the only civilian series that Channel 5 have gotten right, viewing figures are proof. BB15 flopped.

S & L averaged 1.9 millions, the other three C5 shows 1.6.million.

I think the Daley/Hazel situation gave the series a mid-season boost.

Big Brother's launch is only nine days away but I have to admit it doesn't really feel like it. It's being smothered by the other news stories which are gracing the screen and that's hurting rather than helping it. But Channel 5 seem to be thinking that it's a lost cause so are doing very little. I wonder if they'll buy ad space during next week's football and Britain's Got Talent to promote it further?

I am hoping they're sensible and air the highlights show at 10pm across Britain's Got Talent's final week - otherwise Big Brother is going to really struggle.

I saw the end of an advert on 5. Rylan was saying he wished he hadn't worn heels. I don't know how that was supposed to want to make me watch.

Despite low viewing figures, I will go out on a limb and say that I really enjoyed BB13. I'd say that's the best C5 series by far.

I don't think that quite makes sense. BBs 12, 13, and 15 all had essentially the same viewing figures -- a series average of 1.6 million -- and BB 14 ("Secrets and lies") was a bit up at 1.9 million.

That's too small a difference to match "right" vs "flop"

And of course they're all well down compared to C4 numbers.

do channel 5 really need to push the boat out regarding promotion
i don't think so
people who watched last time will more than likely watch this time, that'll be good enough for channel 5
they aren't trying to create a juggernaut but just keep their reliant robin ticking over

what would concern me slightly is that recent media stories seem to about cbb rather than the upcoming bb

Only thing they could do is to air a trailer during BGT.

...and we could file that under overly extravagant stunt.

A bit of radio advertising on the youth stations and a heavy campaign across the Viacom family should be enough.

What radio stations do the youths actually listen to? BBC Radio 1 wouldn't promote and I can't think of any other stations that haven't been taken over by Crapital/Fart that are aimed young people.
What a shambles

From last October:

The channel was bought by Viacom in a deal worth £450m last month, and chief executive Philippe Dauman has hinted that the reality TV giant could be dropped from the schedules in a shake up.

Speaking at a Broadcasting Press Guild event, he said: "Maybe we continue with Big Brother, maybe if for some reason that didn't work out we have the ability to put out other great programming.

“You can go too far with one genre even when it's successful.”

He added: "No show is hugely popular forever so you have to keep your fingers in different pots. Big Brother has been a big performer. We will leave it to the programming team to see where we go."

They will go to minimal effort this year - maybe even sabotage it - and then kill it off for good.

Why would they want to do that? As Dauman himself commented it's a big performer, more so the celebrity version but still. No programmer wants to lose that.

It's been renewed for the foreseeable so fear not, C5 remains committed to Big Brother UK.

bb15 did not flop... it's viewing figures held up and the quality of advertisers held up.
it however was "disjointed" in the way the tasks went... it also annoyed a lot of people on here.. many who also disliked s&l and harp on about a false memory of what BB used to be like (even though BB5 & BB6 had a lot of influence on the last 2 years "reboot" from the boring dross of the final c4 years and the demographically too tight first C5 attempts. what the last 2 years did was reposition the show away from certain people (on this forum) who did not understand the show was no longer made for them (if it ever was, remember they have false memories of what it was in the past as they were confused by the greater amount of tv time they had at what it actually was at it's core) and because they couldnt understand why BB was going where it was going they assumed (as their world is limited to the end of their nose) the programme was a "flop" when it was only failing for them (remember the facts are stronger better higher paying advertisers were clearly there & they were there because a better quality to advertisers viewer was watching, and watching regularly - the advertising slots are often filled as the series goes on, not before the series goes on, and the advertisers remained good quality slot buyers to the end.... less unattractive viewers, more better viewers (even if the total was slightly less) = not a flop for a commercial channel that wants better advertising revenue).

the funny thing was i was right so often with my comments on what was going on last year a few of the "BB isnt what it used to be ranters" actually accused me of working for c5... bless.

these guys make the show around the world and many other shows like it... they know far more about marketing than many of you... and the figures from last year also show you to be wrong fanntastic and damien... and specifically damien your examples of alternative show marketing is proof you are bad at seeing the difference between shows, channels, targets and why they do what they do.

Glad I checked in just now or would not have known. It will be fine, those who love it will watch it, those who don't won't.

Roll on 12th May.

Well they certainly haven't been warming my plate. I had no clue it was back on or when it was back on. It was only when I signed on here to have a nosey a couple of days ago that I found out.

Like many people, I'd imagine, I don't ever watch Channel 5 except for when BB is on. They are making no attempt whatsoever, as far as I can see, with promoting the civilian series. It's all about the z-listers on CBB for Ch5.

And I do so strongly wish that the superior attitude displayed by some on this thread - 'I told you this' 'you don't understand things as well as I do' etc. - won't disease the board this year.

You do realise it makes you sound kind of stupid?

I can't remember the last time there weren't complaints about a lack of promotion and buzz, but the power of promotion or buzz to increase BB viewing figures seems to be very limited.

The implication often seems to be that C4 / C5 / Endemol must either be incompetent or else working against BB, as the reason there's not more promotion. A related idea is that they care only about the celeb version. But does that really make sense?
