Best Music Videos?
lolacola
02-05-2015
For me the band who made the best videos was always Aerosmith. Even if I didn't like the song, I love the videos. The video of Crazy and Cryin especially. Also thought Guns and Roses had great videos. These days music videos just aren't the same. I remember being young and being excited to watch The Box music channel for all the new videos out.

So What's everyone else's top music videos?

Probably Foo Fighters and Tenacious D.

This is a pointless thread, what's "best" as far is anyone is concerned, could be the "worst" for someone else. It's all down to personal perception.

Better title would be, "My Favourite Video."

Everyone can relate to that.

I love the video that was made for the song named "For You" from my most favorite singer James Otto.

God bless you and him always!!!

Ooh I love that video but it scares the bejeezus out of me! I have too many favourite videos to name, many for when I'm in different moods so too hard to pick just one...

I don't think it's fair to say the thread is pointless.
While you are right in that it ultimately comes down to personal opinion there's no harm in people discussing why they think a video is "the best". For example I like videos that tell a story, Bon Jovi "Always" comes to mind. Others might like a video with a lot of dancing, others might prefer something with animation or special effects. Then you have the "so good it's bad" types.

Or pretty much anything by OK Go. I personally really like "I Won't Let You Down".

As for my favourite video..."Learn to Fly" by Foo Fighters has to be up there.

My favourite is Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I used to think the whole video game look/idea they went for was the coolest thing ever when it came out.

But already people are talking about "favourites," so the title of the thread should convey that..

Freedom from George Michael. All those supermodels in the heyday of supermodels. It still looks beautiful today.

I tend to agree with you. It's perfectly reasonable to say what's best as much as what is your favourite, if you can offer a reason why.

I offer Radiohead's 'Street Spirit (Fade Away)' , because the video perfectly complements the song's sense of hopelessness. The dark, threatening sky overhead, people disconnected from each other in space and time, the cryptic imagery drawn from dreams.......

Or The Verve's 'Bitterweet Symphony' where the walk down the high street can represent a journey through life....

Not the Best Video In The World, Ever, but one that shows that smart, inventive videos are still being made:

Natalie Prass - Why Don't You Believe in Me

For me, it's a close call between these two videos, both from Aphex Twin and both directed by Chris Cunningham.

For entertainment value, (not necessarily the "best"),

Robert Palmer.

Can't find the same follow up video, that I have on a VHS tape of all his music videos.

So here's the Pepsi version.

For this poster, all songs are telling a story and thinks that story should be reflected in the video.(this is relating to the late '70's/early '80's) Some got carried away by a combination of what the director 'see's' as well the artist and what either of them had for tea.
There should also be an entertainment element in them, to hook you in. With this in mind, two that stand out from this era and would not be out of place if played today are:-

Queen- I Want To Break Free
Adam & The Ants- Prince Charming
With Queen ,it's the roof top opening, making you wonder, then wallop! Freddie hoovering and your hooked.
With Adam, you get a three minute panto with Diana Dors as a Fairy Godmother, how can you not lose?
Timeless classics, contenders for a top five place on anybody's list.

My favourite video (other posters might not think it is the best) is this:

(The) Pink Floyd - Arnold Layne:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQTFRq1hjtM

I like it, because (to me), it has a surreal quality, & a light-hearted wackiness to it, that makes me want to watch it over & over again.

Also (imo) the music is great too.
