French Language Oldies
My very cool daughter recently introduced me to " Emmenez-Moi" by Charles Aznavour and I'm playing it over and over. I love it.
I'd like to listen to some other french language songs of a similar period. Can anyone make any recommendations? Thanks.

The classic was always "La Mer," by Charles Trenet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd_nopTFuZA Though Bobby Darin made a reasonable attempt at the English language version. My favourite by any artist, is this by Halie Loren, a really sexy voice, particularly the verse she sings in French.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_G7clIpm14 |

I deliberately avoided mentioning Edith Piaf as I never liked her voice!
I'd rather have Vanessa Paradis. (Now, it definitely qualifies as an "oldie"). But I couldn't imagine trying to play a saxophone wearing gloves! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dCMiNa5tgI |

This Sacha Distel song later became a hit for Tony Bennett and other English language singers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YylZoZmfwRQ And the notorious Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlpDf6XX_j0 |

Jacques Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas" is absolutely beautiful - listen to Nina Simone's version, too, it's heartbreaking.
And as mentioned before, Françoise Hardy's 'Tous Les Garçons et Les Filles" is absolutely wonderful - such beautiful lyrics. |

At last! One I like ( even though it's a lady )...
Francoise Hardy " Mon Amie La Rose". ( Thanks, JohnnyForget ) None of the others - and I've listened to dozens this weekend - have really got that Je ne sais quoi that I'm after. I think the answer is that Emmenez Moi is just such a brilliant song ( i.m.o) and nothing else is really matching up. But I have taken a fancy to another Charles Aznavour number; https://youtu.be/hWLc0J52b2I love his performance in that vid, too. |

Can anyone identify the song at 34,7 on this video? It's quite a French classic I think.
https://youtu.be/5mAtVsA-pes I also like the one at 1.02.56 |

J'ai deux amours
Mon pays et Paris Par eux toujours Mon coeur est ravi A lovely version - in French - by the French-sounding, but American, Madeleine Peyroux. Or if you want a proper oldie, here's Josephine Baker's original from 1930. |
