Could be very different in the cup final though. Imagine if Villa score 1st and then park the bus.

If after the last time spuds finished above us you had placed a £5 bet with some unfortunate front wheeler for the season 1996, then double or quitsed it every year since, your fiver would now be worth....

Recent history says we sell players to our rivals - especially City, I can't see why you'd think we wouldn't.
also in Feo's post match interview he was talking about the team and their ambitions for next season. so he doesn't seem to be planning on going anywhere. |

ancient history more like, we dont need to sell our best players anymore. In fact the best available players are now clamouring to sign with us.

3 years ago Van Persie, 1 year ago Sagna. Hardly ancient history. And we didn't 'need' to sell RVP, Fagregas, Nasri etc - most of them wanted to leave.
I'm glad to hear all the best are clamouring to sign for us, maybe Wenger better prick his ears up and dust off his wallet. RVP and Fab both wanted to come back! and sagna..was hardly a big loss. |

They left because they could earn more at other clubs due to financial restraints that are no longer an issue because the stadium is now paid for and theirs a new sponsorship deal in place.

I hope Ospina gets to play in the Cup Final next week.
He's done very little wrong since coming in for the unprofessional Szczesny and deserves the chance to win something tangible for his efforts rather than just the '3rd place trophy'. I hope Monreal plays as well. |

IMO should we rest Sanchez a bit and put him on the bench for the cup final?

Fabregas left because he wanted to go back to Spain, I don't remember that being anything to do with money. At least you agree it wasn't because the club 'had' to sell them as you previously stated. And IMO Sagna was a loss and I'm sure Cesc is crying in his football boots whilst polishing his PL medal.

He shouldn't have played both games this week though. |

Well like i said its not an issue now, the last 2 seasons he has bought in quality players and no one important has gone anywhere.stop looking backwards.
Although there was one time I'd gladly have shown Theo the door myself, after the 2-0 salute to the Tottenham fans i would forgive him anything!

We scored at last! Walcott has given Wenger a bit of a selection headache ahead of the final. So it's time to second guess what the manager will do team wise. I think he will stick with sir Chesney in goal. I also think he will keep Gibbs in which will be harsh on Monreal but that's just my hunch. Ramsey to come back in. I guess the real teaser is the 2 W's. My gut feeling is he will start with Giroud and use Walcott to get at tiring Villa defence. Wilshere to be on the bench too.
I would start with Walcott and get at them from the off. I fear we will revert to type and pass the ball to death and just play into Villa's hands while they soak up the pressure and get us on the break. |

Ospina in goal should be a no brainer! What is Wenger's problem with goal keepers since the Lehmann days?! It always used to baffle me back then that the best keeper was benched and it still does now

That's my worry, yet another slow start. Listening to Talkshite last night and the Press Pass and they were suggesting a Villa win too. Our last three visits to Wembley have been awful but but we have scraped through each time. It would be nice for once to put on a show and win convincingly. Don't know what it is about Wembley but we don't play well there.
It is, of course, true that we've yet to make a convincing appearance at Wembley, the Charity Shield aside. No reason why we shouldn't dominate on Saturday, though. I don't believe Villa have the defensive unit to play an effective counterattacking game a la Swansea, or park the bus a la Sunderland. Also, as the last quarter of the season has revealed, we're not Liverpool, who made Villa look great. I respect Villa as a club and credit to Tim, his man management skills turned it around in the Prem for them, but if we set out at a high pace, we can win this early. If we let it run 20 or 30 minutes into the second half, we're inviting a Benteke special and for me, that's the key danger, |

But that's the worry. When do Arsenal ever start at a high pace? I can see Villa content to let us have most of the ball but getting nowhere with it.
![]() Question is, will Wenger play to the game and start with Walcott, or play to his instinct and start with Giroud up top? My sense is Giroud, which means we'll be reliant on Sanchez and Santi to create the early chances, so unless their form improves, you could be right. Personally, I hope he goes for it and blows Villa away. We're well capable. |

Yep, that's the frustrating bit. We're capable of blowing them away but just as likely to turn up as if we have just got of bed.

Our goal scoring form is back just in time when Villa's is is still pretty poor. I really hope our Wembley form picks up starting from this final. Expecting something big from Alexis

I'm glad to hear all the best are clamouring to sign for us, maybe Wenger better prick his ears up and dust off his wallet. Regarding the other players, if they don't want to play for us, it will unsettle the team and the dressing room, as well as the fans. There's no point keeping them on the bench, might as well sell them for money. I think Wenger has been spot on with all the sales (except he should have sold Van Persie to a different team). I'm also glad he did not exercise his right to re-sign Fabregas as that would have definitely upset a few people on the team, and prevents the 'problem' re-occuring. |
