We didn't sell Sagna. His contract ran out and he signed for City instead. Arsenal chose not to give him the offer he wanted and he went to a club prepared to pay him good money.

Regarding the other players, if they don't want to play for us, it will unsettle the team and the dressing room, as well as the fans. There's no point keeping them on the bench, might as well sell them for money.

I think Wenger has been spot on with all the sales (except he should have sold Van Persie to a different team). I'm also glad he did not exercise his right to re-sign Fabregas as that would have definitely upset a few people on the team, and prevents the 'problem' re-occuring.
Sorry, I like Wenger, but WHAT?! Selling RVP was the beginning of the end of Arsenal's title hopes for years to come and I'm still not seeing a replacement for him. Selling RVP to a direct rival needs no comment.

Letting Chelsea have Fabregas (for cheap!) was also incredibly stupid. Chelsea won the title almost the moment Fabregas signed with them.

Sanchez was an amazing buy and carried Arsenal to 3rd (although his hard work was undone several times by poor defending at least in the first half of the season). Without Sanchez Arsenal would be in big trouble.

AFAIK Cesc wanted to come back but we said no. It feels weird no doubt and hurts, but what was the guy supposed to do?

That was such a mistake. Even if Arsenal has 10 similar players, buying Cesc back so cheaply could not have hurt. Given how awful Ozil usually plays Cesc deserved his spot. Plus, just the very fact that Chelsea would not have been able to sign him should have been enough reason to buy him.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms to sign Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal for £25m. He has the same agent as Alexis Sanchez.
Does that mean Arsenal have lost interest in Morgan Schneiderlin?
Morgan said ' If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.’ I presume he means Arsenal.
Personally I hope Schneiderlin stays at Southampton.

Did he really though Grim? I seem to remember him making murmurings, but I can't really believe he wanted to come back to us - maybe Wenger knew this? But I don't blame him for going to Chelsea, all players want to be with the best team and with the best manager, and that's what they are at the present time.

Can't believe some are still going on about Fabregas. Forget him, he left Arsenal years ago, end off! Would we have won the title with him?...I seriously doubt it. He's a snidey toss pot. Chelsea and him are welcome to each other.

It would be a great signing, certainly better than Schneiderlin who wouldn't be bad either. Khedira's available on a free, why not take him (as well)?

Still leaves us short of a 25-goal a season striker, Giroud is good, nothing more than that and Theo may be good as well in the middle but unproven, in spite of his hattrick the other day. Get Morata or even Benzema in, I'd say, the money's there!

Furthermore, Czech should be good and ship out Sir Chesney.

Is Benzema unhappy at Real? Why would he leave? His position doesn't appear to be threatened.

Yeah wonder where Khedira will end up going if we get Vidal. Out of the two I would definitely prefer Vidal as he is less injury prone.

Would love Benzema here as he'd be an upgrade over Giroud imo. Or seeing as Benitez is headed to Madrid, could we tempt Higuain over?

One thing is for sure, it's going to be an interesting summer!

He's bound to leave at some point and while he's playing, he's not seen as a 'star player', which I feel he would be here. He's been linked in the past when things were tough and Arsenal would be a much 'steadier' ship than what Real is.

Also, who will the new manager bring in? At a guess, it will be a few major signings, which would potentially threaten his place. If Rafa does indeed go to Real, I think he'll bring Higuain (back) with him, possibly opening up the possibility of a Benzema move.

Agree that it's total fantasy at my part, I'm just trying to throw some names around that would fit. He ticks all the boxes and is French as well!!

Vidal would be great, as would Khedira although we'll probably end up with Schneiderlin, who of course does have EPL experience. I can't see us be as sloppy against the likes of swansea, southampton with some like Vidal and feel that in at least the home games, he'd give us an edge against the likes of Chelsea, ManU and City. Convert those draws/losses into wins and the table look infinitely better.

Higuain is a great shout, would love him here.

Agree, it certainly will be interesting this summer, with the right signings, we can certainly challenge and improve on next year.

3 posts in one day, must be a record for me!

Finally got round to watching MOTD and I must say that 2 things struck me.

1) Theo may well have a future as a central striker. His awareness, movement and killer instinct was good. Of course, this was a dead rubber game, but still, positive.

2) We need someone like Czech. Ospina is a safe pair of hands and decent back up I feel, but we should have a much much better goalie. At 33 years, Czech will probably be great for a good 5/6 seasons.

He's alot more assured than Chesney but Ospina's shot-stopping leaves alot to be desired especially long range shot as he tends to lose flight as the ball. Was lucky to make enough contact with the shot that hit the bar at the weekend and was at fault for the goal imo.

Guardian reporting that he's on his way to Juve, which in itself is a good sign because he's likely a replacement for either Vidal or Pogba going on their way.

Talk among pundits has been that Madrid may start Cristiano up front as a central striker next year in order to get more out of Bale on the wings, which would put Benzema out of the team. United are supposedly hovering.

Excellent news if true. Someone at last in the Patrick Vieira mould. Let's hope the plan is to play him alongside Coquelin at the expense of a 'creative player' (Ramsey, Ozil?), and not instead of.

Some good injury news at last - Welbeck has hurt his knee and misses the cup final

I'm hoping Theo starts on Saturday. I'm wondering if AW might leave Coquelin out to accommodate him, or whether he's got the balls to drop Ozil?

If anyone's going to get dropped to make way for Walcott, its Cazorla or Giroud.

bet he starts with Giroud and Theo gets on in the 70th minute if we're chasing the game.
And people who want to drop Cazorla have got short memories!

My Red membership for next season was debited today. Isn't that quite a bit earlier than last season?

You can bet the BBC will be hoping Villa win as theyre underdogs etc, I get the feeling history is against us. Just seen this stat:
The FA Cup has only been retained 5 times in the past 100 years
But that includes 1 time we retained it (2003)

We had our reminders last week I think it was. For the first time in donkeys years I'm not taking out Red and I've cancelled my youngest son's JG. I asked if there was any chance I'd be upgraded to Silver this year and they said no, so I've just left it.

Paul the Octopus was during the World Cup in 2010 not Euro 2008, so I wont hold that article to account for accuracy
