How many more seasons can fans tolerate 'we're building a side...........judge me in May..........we were consistent in the calendar year...........bit unlucky............injuries'? As good an achievement it is to finish in the top four, a 12th year without the title is unacceptable for a club with big resources. Plus you have to consider:

*City will strengthen and possibly attract Guardiola
*United will make changes
*Chelsea will spend
*Spurs are moving upwards, even if the new stadium will hamper them in the short term
*Liverpool will improve under Klopp
*The bottom-half clubs will stregnthen thanks to the TV money

I pray and I still think it's possible for Wenger to win the title. But then what? He hasn't build a side that will go on to dominate English football, he broke up the Invincibles far too soon, so he isn't going to learn from his mistakes. And sadly can't see him winning the CL with Arsenal. Blew it in 2004, unlucky in 2006 and his first team should've gone all the way if it weren't for Wembley.

If Guardiola is available, Wenger should be actively wooing him.”

I agree with all if this but IF Aw fails to win the league and is not invited to resign, than it shows us how unambitious the board is. They have no excuses. Pep is there they should be wooing him. I will not buy Aw running the biard etc no more they know what they are clearly doing.

No way will we finishes 4th, 3rd ar worst imo. We can win the league this season, no one else wants it.

Leicester (H)

If we don't get around 11/12 points from those fixtures, it will be very disappointing with 12 games left to play.”

This was a game Elenry was made for and AW leaves him on the bench. Merts and flam should be dropped for Him and Gabriel.

Agree. This is Wenger being mr conservative again. Rather stick with the players he knows. Too safe. Flamini is a useful squad player to call upon now and again but that's all. At least this new guy will start against Burnley.

Wenger always takes about 2 years before playing new players.

Yep a lot of people on here seem to have given up on 1st with 45 points still to play for. Another way to look at it is we've been pants the last few games and are somehow still only 3 points behind. With 3 or 4 big players to come back I reckon this could go down to the wire...

We will, absolutely, positively finish in the top four. Fans, Pravda and Dear Leader will celebrate.

And therein lies the problem.

It's not a new thing though, it's what we've known for years now. The Board isn't ambitious to win the title; 3rd/4th is fine as it gets us CL football and the revenue it brings, plus there are bums on seats every week. If we didn't get CL football for a few years, only then would they begin to contemplate his position.

Thing is we are in a position where we could win this. But when you watch us do you see a team with self-belief? A team that thinks it’s going to win something. I don’t and that’s the biggest issue for me. I don’t see anything that makes me think that they think they will win it. Same sort of performances. Nothing changes when we have the chance to make a statement of intent

Big big chance missed. No surprise result, to be fair. I'm not sure why we had the slow Merts on Costa, he was clearly identified as the weak link for Costa. When he went off, ODL made the wrong decision to take Giroud off. We'd already lost a tall player and with no height in the team, we'd have been buggered with corners etc.

As it turned out, no harm was done in that respect, but we certainly missed a target man up front for Ozil to fire balls to, and for Theo to run off. Wrong tactics, and I feel Campbell should have been taken off.

Why did Elneny not play? He'd have been a much better player than Flamini and may well have had better luck with the chances that were there. If I'm not mistaken, he's a better 'box to box' person and may have been more of a goal threat than Flam. It's another sign that we're not setting the team up to take control and attack.

All in all, we're still near the top and I feel that Leicester will drop more points than us (we still have to play them at home as well). Luckily, we don't play away to City until the second to last game of the season and there are still plenty of games for all to drop points. If (big if) we can get a run going and stop dropping points needlessly, it's astonishingly, still there for the taking.

Not all bad, just frustrating that we missed a great chance again!

2 points from last 3 games is definitely not title challenging form regardless of the opposition. Martin Tyler mentioned it yesterday that Flamini was the only player after the Stoke game that was disappointed we didn't win against Stoke and that's where the problem lies. The mentality is completely wrong at the club.

Wenger got his tactics wrong. Flamini was tasked with man marking Bojan at Stoke so why wasn't he doing the same marking Fabregas seeing as Mikel and Matic are both pre-dominantly DMs. He was given too much time and room to pick out his passes which led to the red card.

Also seeing as this was a big game, Ramsey should have been more defensive playing the way he did against City at home. His attacking play was pretty poor as well.

Should have been Campbell taken off and Elneny needs to start ahead of Flamini or even Ramsey next PL game to freshen things up.

Apparently Carl Jenkinson has picked up an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season, so he has returned to us for treatment.

But... as our loan deal with West Ham was for the whole season, they still have to pick up his wage bill!

Shame re Jenks. Decent player, but if his pace's gone not sure. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery, although he'll probably get sold ro a mid table team in a year or so.

Rosicky's back and could feature against Burnley. We could do with some experience and he's still a good player.

Linked with Yarmolenko and Nolito again, both could be useful. Still, we don't have a bad squad, hopefully we can move two players on in the summer and replace them with top quality players. Looking at campbell and a few of the older players like Merts and Rosicky.

OK, so it's the Star - but according to "reports", we've agreed to sign Andriy Yarmalenko for £23m

If true, he's a good player but don't think he's what we really need right now - we need an outright striker who can bang in the goals. And £23m is a little bit too much for Yarmolenko I would say - £17m or so would have been fair. But if we do get him then I'd take him.

It would make sense if ODL still sees Walcott as a striker. Whether he is or can be is another question...

Re the fee, I'm not bothered. We have the money, better make use of it on the pitch.

Other news is that Coq's also back and that Wellbeck's nearly there too. Cazorla and Wilshire are a few weeks away.

so if Coquelin's fit again, where does that leave Elneny? Flamini appears to be ahead of him too, at least this season.
Signing him has the hallmarks of an agent offering Wenger a (well) sub-£10m young player from a CL rated, decent if unspectacular team. He can't resist a 'bargain' by his own admission.

Flamini will be gone in the summer and Elneny will then shadow Coquelin I presume.

Is it true by the way that the bang average Jenkinson signed a long term contract with us before he went off to sit on West Ham's bench for the season?

The BBC Sport/Football website is a load of ass. The "Live Text" and actual score/stats for the games dont match up with each other, and previously you used to be able to see live updates and the score at the same time. Not anymore.

Edit: Now its sorted out I think.
Welcome back Alexis

Edit: The Live Text still says "Second half begins: 1-1" WTF

Quite a lot of pessimism on the thread this week. Guardiola may well go to City so I think we have to hang on to Wenger. I wanted him out in 2011 but am more reconciled to him since we won the 2 fa cups and signed ozil and sanchez.

Good win today. Looks like the 5ht round will have most of the top teams so I can see some tougher draws being made.
