The horlicks we almost made of a routine CL group followed by the regular exit at the 1st knockout stage.
The embarrassing domestic cup defeats at home to Watford and the thrashing by Sheffield Wednesday. And most of all, since going top on January 2nd in the poorest quality Premier League in memory - 4 wins out of the next 13 games.. An appalling season where we have gone backwards, which totally shows up the manager's decision not to buy a single outfield player last summer as shockingly negligent. And next season the dinosaur will be going up against Guardiola, Conte, probably Mourinho, Klopp who has got Liverpool ticking again and Tottenham's outstanding young manager. So it won't be getting any better. For ****'s sake retire!!! |

Actually now you've put it like that I'm more convinced then ever that he won't make it until the end of next season.

The frustating thing is, he is not even a bad manager. Granted he makes bad choices. I think his arrogance and stubborness seperate him from the rest. I think he is a good manager( not great or brilliant like he once was). I think he is a bad fit fir Arsenal. If it is footie he will miss i am sure he can coach france or a team in another league.
He is too blinkered (read stubborn). Definitely arrogant. One dimensional. Dithering, reactive, not proactive. He loves the game and he knows he will not get so much freedom anywhere else, not now at his age. He admitted that 'retirement' scares the hell out of him. No outside interests that I know of. He would make a damn good politician though with the amount of spin and bs he comes out with. |

Forget about who manages Arsenal, who manages Arsene? Quote:

But there's a means to an end. I never genuinely thought Arsenal would win the league title this season, and that was because of Wenger. They still look brittle in defence, the midfield cannot dominate games and the attack isn't clinical. Whenever he solves one problem, another seems to arise. And I don't think he has a clue about how to solve it -- his in-game management is terrible. It seems he only likes to do anything radical during pre-season, and even then he comes up with millions of excuses as to why Arsenal haven't signed anybody. Arsenal only look good when a player returns from injury. Manager can never get his strongest XI playing at the same time. So when Cazorla returns, he'll comment on how much the team have missed him, and it's unfair that all these players can't play together at the same time. The club is in a fantastic position to dominate English football. It's not like at United when Fergie did a runner -- their squad was unbalanced; when Wenger leaves and the board sort their agenda out, the sky's the limit. Wenger will probably stay because the challenge of Mourinho, Conte, Guardiola, Poch, Klopp next season is too good to turn down. Let's not forget that new managers bring instability, so don't expect City and United to hit the ground running. Theoretically, Wenger should capitalise, but will he? Nope. Expecting the same old guff. |

By definition, if he makes bad choices, ergo must make him a bad manager? Sorry, just splitting hairs. I know what you are getting at.

Call me silly, but I doubt he's in it for the money.........when he speaks about how football should be played, he evokes strong feelings. And football's his life, unlike Sir Alex I think he would struggle to contemplate a life outside managing.
Rather it seems he wants to maximise the club's revenues, and the way to do that is run it like a business. He did say once he fights for his players to get handsomely paid, hence why we see so many first team starts who have contributed to nowt this season pocked £70k+ p/w, or after a string of good performances get a contract renewal. Finishing fourth means another CL qualifier, how much additional money would that bring? And gives Wenger the added excuse for transfer dealing delays. Cannot justify him staying put another season. The team don't even play good, expansive football anymore. It's very boring and stale. |

We really need to finish 3rd though, because if Pool win the EL don't they get a CL spot?

Thanks for explaining
If ALL of that has to happen at once, it sounds unlikely but I still want us to finish as high as possible.

I think Arsene Wenger will never leave as this will be his last club before he retires. Why should he move to another club when this is his perfect job, as he has got complete control over transfers and no inferference from the owners. Do you really think he would get this much control at another club, No because all clubs want success and if you are not winning then you will be sacked. Wenger knows this so thats why he wont leave

If he finishes 5th this season and fails to get CL next season he will walk before next season ends.

I guess there may be a few clubs interested in his services but none of the major ones. I can't see him managing another club after Arsenal. I don't see him hanging about at Arsenal either, going upstairs as they say. I bloody well hope not anyway. He might try his hand at managing a national team but again not sure that is likely. He would miss out on the day to day stuff. He's a multi-millionaire and can retire in comfort and do the odd of punditry if he so wishes. That would be my advice!

Given the quality of manager being employed by the larger clubs and the amount of extra cash being made available to every club (and they'll buy even if we won't) I don't think Arsene has a hope in hell of being competitive next season. I truly believe the crowd will have driven him out before Christmas.
I do think the board are looking for his replacement. I mean not all these paper stories can be false. I think the problem is when his ex players like Dennis Berkamp say he needs to stay it cayluse a problem. It is like he is scared the club will do a Utd if he goes. |

You're perfectly entitled to your opinion but to imply that doesn't make me a 'true' fan is rubbish. This club has consumed more than forty years of my life and If I want them to finish outside the top four to get rid of a bad manager then it's entirely my prerogative.
By the way, thanks for suddenly making me feel old ![]() Us finishing outside the top 4 isn't going to get rid of Wenger. The new tv deal, a 40,000 season ticket waiting list and untold cash going in the pockets of the silent one will make sure he stays. By the way if Arsenal have consumed your life for 40 years how on earth did you handle it when Terry Neill was in charge and we were regularly finishing 16/17? |
