There are many things to consider when adding to the squad. The criteria is quite rightly a lot more than just how good the player is. We have a good spirit in the squad at the moment, and Wenger will be careful not to bring any bad apples in.

He will need to find players who are better than what we have, can fit in personality-wise, want to live in the UK, fit our salary ceiling, and are not carrying inflated transfer fees / signing on demands.
Exactly, what we need to do is get a few more players fit in well 'within the culture and of course budget', but who are genuine quality additions/replacements in areas where we need it. It goes without saying that this will need to happen within Arsenal's means but I don't think that this would be a problem.

It may mean that some other players will have to be moved on, but that's the nature of the business.

Jack's making a habit of scoring wonder goals. If you thought his first couldn't be bettered he smashes an even better 2nd.

Well done Jack. Nice to see your football doing the talking.

So we can have Cech but they want a home grown player as part of the deal.
Jenkinson it is then.

I think they are playing hard ball just to get more money. Saying they want one of our best young players is one way of making us increase the cash offer - whatever that is so far. I imagine it's probably not very much.

Cech is odds on with the bookmakers to join us in this window. The only other player on short odds is El Shaarawy from MIlan. Other than that the bookies are stumped regarding our transfer plans, as nobody is much less than 10/1 to join us.

the new shirt's underwhelming. It's got white armpits and a weird white tail which shows unless you tuck the shirt in. (who does that?!).

Don't like it at all. Worst kit for ages, looks like something cyclists would wear. What were Puma thinking?!

15/16 fixtures are out!

West Ham on the opening day is a good game to start with. Then Crystal Palace away, Liverpool at home and Newcastle away isn't a bad set of games for August.

Chelsea away in Sep, Man Utd at home in October, Spuds at home in November, City at home game before Xmas, Southampton away Boxing Day then Bournemouth at home 2 days later.

January is going to be a tough month with Stoke away then Chelsea at home straight after. Man Utd away in February, relatively easy games in March and April apart from maybe Spuds away.

Penultimate game away to Man City then Villa at home to finish the season hopefully as Champions!

What do people think of the potential Nigerian billionaire take-over?

Liverpool turn down £40 mill bid from Man City for Stirling. I can see him going for £50.
Hope Wilshire doesn't go but I wouldn't be surprised. We're due to sell another one of our quality players to City.

Absolutely insane. Pelligrini was given unlimited funds and all he can come up with is Sterling and Pogba. Not very ambitious.

Miyaichi gone on a permanent transfer to St Pauli in Germany.

I thought he was an exciting young signing back then. Shame it didn't work out.

I'm not sure whether this is a good thing, tbh. We're financially very sound and could afford just about any football player we would want. The squad is pretty darn good and we need only 2/3 quality additions for a proper title challenge and to continue our winning ways. The kind of Football Mananger deals/take overs are great in a game but not necessarily in reality.

Saying all that, he does appear to be a 'real' Arsenal supporter and would look at 'tweaking' the club rather than a Man City type revolution. That's a principal that I can buy into, but can quite easily be done without a billionaire investor. For all that he's done (and doing of late), Wenger does seem to have too much control and that could change for the better. Whether it will is hard to tell, you sometimes don't know what you got till it's gone...

All in all, it's speculation for now and fun to comment on, not more than that really. What do you think about it?

Reports are saying that we're on the verge of signing Cech from Chelsea, would be a fabulous signing.

I've been burnt before about such transfer reports, so I'll believe it when I see him wearing an Arsenal shirt. But, yes, if he signs, it'd be a great acquisition and something we desperately need.

The good thing is that we're in no need to sell, and that Jack would probably rather stay with us than be a bench warmer there. He clearly loves the club and wouldn't be a disruption, I think. While he's not a guaranteed starter, he'll be pretty useful in the games he will play and would be able to provide a spark off the bench.

Not surprised really. He had a decent half season on loan at Feye..... no, can't do it... in Rotterdam, but not really the quality we'd expect.

It would be a brilliant bit of business and exactly where we need some quality. Now a DM (Schneiderlin will do) and a striker like Benzema, Morata and Higuain and we're pretty much there. One can dream!

Only 13 years after Wenger first agreed to sign him

Cech has got about 2 good years left in him. Still no long term solution to the goalkeeping problem.

To get the kind of striker we need, we'll have to pay about £45-£50 million.

Hopefully we'll get at least 4/5 years from him, he's 33 now and should be on top of his game for more than 2.

If we get a 45/50 million striker too, I'd be delighted. Think we'd be better spending it on a DM though, preferably we'll get them all.
