If we sign Cech, who would make way? There's some noise being made about Ospina going off to Turkey, but I dont want that to happen especially since he's had a solid first season for us

I hope Ospina stays- he would be a solid, reliable Number 2.

Chesney to continue as our No. 2 then.

I can only guess it would be because Chesney qualifies as homegrown.
It certainly can't be on ability.

Ospina did a fine job for us, his stats for last season are outstanding.

Ospina won't be a No.2. He is captain of his national side, and will demand first team football.

Chesney will have to be No.2.

Cech will be a great signing for us. There is absolutely no doubt about his abilities. Great signing.

I don't think Arsenal need a goalkeeper seems like a pointless signing when we need other players more.

Even if it is only for two years it's still a great signing. We need a good keeper. I think it will probably be more like 4 or 5 years.

Our fans are always complaining that we don't sign the finished article that is ready immediately. Well here it is.

I disagree. Czech is a great signing for us, will be no 1 for at least 3/4 seasons.

Do agree that we need other players perhaps more, but I suspect that these will arrive soon. Keen for an established DM to play the Coq role, who will be a great back up.

Up front we can do with an upgrade on Giroud, although I'd rather that we spend big on the DM. Theo's been pretty good through the middle and that we have a lot of goals from midfield (Sanchez, Cazorla, Ozil).

It seems like a good signing on the face of it. Just have to worry about why Cech became Chelsea's number 2 if he was still on top of his game.

I think the biggest single priority is a 30 goal a season striker.

I think Cech became number 2 mainly because Chelsea didn't want to lose Courtois who wanted to be their number 1.

Yep, this. It certainly wasn't on ability or form. Two great keepers, it just made sense to keep the one that has a lot longer ahead of him.

To be honest, I think that if we're only signing one 'big' player, I'd rather see a beast in the DM role. Giroud is probably a 20/25 goal a season striker and doesn't tend to take pens, and with Wellbeck and Wallcott, we have cover. With a Viera type player, we'll get even more goals from Midfield and ship in less at the back.

I would have gone for Kondogbia. At £22mil he's a snip.

Cech is "close" to a move according to the BBC, some papers are saying we already signed him:

papers are so full of transfer rubbish that I'm waiting to see who actually lines up for the Arsenal.com website wearing the shirt.
We have a very fine squad of "nearly signed" world class players!

Giroud goes missing in the big games and those are the games we need to start winning. I don't think Welbeck and Walcott are reliable enough cover over a season.

If Henry or van Persie were in the side over the last two years we would have won at least one Premier League title.

I agree, insofar as as good a keeper as Cech was and probably still is, the improvement is marginal at best. Ospina was in the top 3 or 4 in the league last season. Szezney would be in top 3 or 4 No2s in the P.L and even the third choice keeper didn't do badly.

All 3 keepers are in the Top 4 in their respective pecking orders, so it is one of the last positions to improve upon.

If it happens.....I think Cech will be a great signing, he's miles better than both Chesney and Ospina. But I still think we need a real goal machine, so another striker would be good.

I wonder what we are going to do with Joel Campbell and Wellington Silva.

Silva has finally got his UK work permit, and so qualifies to play over here. Will Wenger bring him back and maybe loan him out in the PL? I don't think he's ready yet to be a significant member of the squad, and it's pointless to play him in the reserves / league cup. We've had him now for four years!

And Campbell. I think we may sell him in this window. We had a good look at him last season, and I think it's time to face up to the fact that he's not going to cut it at the level we need right now.

Campbell will probably go yes and should bring in some extra cash. Don't know much about Silva, so can't comment.

I'm also interested to find out what will happen with Podolski, he too may leave and I'm hoping that the fees for them coupled with the salary savings will be invested in a quality striker, should he and Campbell leave.

We've apparently signed the wonderfully named Vlad Dragomir, Romanian under 16 captain:
