We def need a replacement for Welbeck. I don't doubt Vardy's ability but not sure how he would fit in to our style of play. Unless the manager is willing to mix things up a bit then it could be painful to watch. He will prob be stuck out on the wing anyway. I'd be inclined to stay With Leicester City and continue the adventure if I was him.

I don't really know how to feel about the Vardy rumours. On the one hand, it's good that we're showing some ambition (if it's true) and going for someone who is currently in good form. On the other hand, it's not the normal type of signing we would make and it's a big risk on a player who hasn't consistently proven himself in the Premier League yet and of course he has no Champions League experience. If we do sign him then how it works out could go either way.

I would be more positive if he was a raw 21yr old that could be polished and educated. But we're talking about a guy who's nearly 30yrs. He's the finished article going into his last few so called best yrs before the inevitable decline.

He was convicted of assault a few years ago and given a curfew. He had to be subbed at the 60 minute mark in away matches so he could get home in time.

He could have another good season if Özil stays fit.

Aubameyang > Higuain > Morata > Vardy

Just hope if we do sign Vardy that he's not a one season wonder. He would certainly convert more of Ozil's chances than Giroud that's for sure.

Not sure about Vardy at all. I've felt for a while that he could be a one season wonder as defenders will have him pegged next season.
And a bit snobby of me I know, but he doesn't quite seem like an Arsenal player - comes across as a bit of a classless oaf to me.

Having said that if he comes as another option and not the main signing up front I can just about live with it.

As a Leicester fan I really hope he doesn't go.

All this talk of a one season wonder, have a look at his record on the way to where he is now.

Pearson didn't know how to use him like Ranieri for the best part of his first season in the PL, he was in and out of the team often out of position on the wing to accommodate Nugent and Ulloa in the middle. As you can see when Hodgson does that with him there's no point him being on the pitch.

In fairness, Morata isn't overly prolific.

Think Vardy would certainly convert more of ozils chances than Giroud.

Also with Xhaka and Vardy it looks like we are going for more Steel in the team, would be nice for us to be able to get stuck in when needed.

But how is this a good thing for Arsenal where Wenger's specialty is to play everyone out of position?

It's a no from me re Vardy. 20million could be spent better on better and younger players. Last season's Eredivisie top goal scorer's available for less than half that and is still young. Wouldn't be against getting both, but just Vardy would be a mistake, I feel.

Not getting this 'he's got no European experience' guff. We are not exactly doing that great with our players who do have European experience. If you are good enough then it doesn't really matter what the competition is.

Reckon it would be quite an exciting signing if he comes to you guys.

£20m ain't a huge punt. He brings energy, he can finish and just cos he played in the Leicester system this season, doesn't mean he can't adapt, as long as he is played as a striker.
Tough decision for him if the offer is there but I think he will go for it.

Wenger's gone for him as, from all his possible striker signing options of 'known names', Vardy is the cheapest.
Vardy and Leicester haven't agreed anything yet anyhow.

It's not a signing to excite though as he's had one good season, is nearly 30 and I can't say I like him or think he's anywhere near world class.

Deal could be done as early as tomorrow evening. This is going to be a really busy summer. Some thoughts..........

1. Think it's Wenger's admission that he was wrong not to strengthen his team last season. You won't hear him saying it to the press, but actions speak louder than words.

2. Unconventional signing. But it's the final nail in Wenger's 100-year project. He knows he can't turn to youth to save the day. And he's been signing experienced players for a while. 29-years-old.............means nothing. Wrighty joined a year younger and the rest they say is history. Plus I think Vardy's stamina is his greatest attribute.

3. Vardy 'wants' to come, and don't blame him. London, £100k p/w, young family to think of.....life is sorted.

4. Vardy is a decent player. Is he an 'Arsenal' player though? I think Wenger finally is prepared to tweak his style to win something big. And let's be honest, Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott, Ox, Ramsey, Wilshere............if you set them up to play on the counter they can be devastating.

5. Wenger's last season? Vardy in the CL will be a great asset, especially in two-legged affairs. And I'm sure Wenger would be prepared to change his style to win the competition.

6. It's a calculated risk worth taking. Weakening your rivals in the short term, to stay in the top four. Another 'Jeffers'? He won the double in his first year..........think Wenger would be happy to sign off with another double if it meant Vardy joined.

Good post Belligerence. You would have to assume that if Vardy were to sign then the system would be tweaked. I don't see him as tippy tappy type player at all but somebody who can score goals with the minimum of fuss. The last thing he needs is it to be coached out of him and become more of 'team player'. Even Wenger wouldn't try and do that....would he?! If it happens then fine, if it doesn't then the search continues.

Best idea Wenger has had in years.

If you had made a serious bid for vardy last Christmas you would have won the league. Arsenal with vardy will win the league for the next 3 years. 20 million is a snip. Far better buy than ibrahimovic for instance.

Warming to the idea of Vardy, but prefer someone else tbh.

Giroud's scored two against Scotland, Kos only one so far. That Dutch chap Janssen I mentioned just scored his 3rd goal in 5 caps for Holland and scored 27 league goals last season, worth a punt and would cost probably less than 10million.

Vardy, Janssen and a good central defender would be a good window with Xhaka already there. Perhaps another midfielder would be good, the money's there, why not spend it??

I'm just pleased that Wenger has finally got it out of his trousers and is flashing it around indiscriminately.

This could potentially be a great signing but for that to be the case we will have to change our style of play.

Say what you like about Walcott but Arsene could have used his pace better and has chosen not to play that way. So now that's going to change if Vardy comes in? Quick balls over the top or in behind?

I find it hard to believe and if that is what happens, we could have made that change in style much earlier.
