£20m could be worth a shot but £30m = too much imo

It's now being quoted as £30m, and I certainly can't see Vardy as the perfect fit for Arsenal. Not the Arsenal everyone has grown accustomed to watching since Wenger arrived anyway. Is he going to change the style of play to suit a 29 year old striker who has one good season in the EPL on his CV ?
I'm not saying it won't work, but it's a gamble.

Our style is all nice to watch but only two trophies in a decade. If Vardy cost £30 million but helps us to win the league or get us deep into the CL then in my book he is worth it.

At the level we're at, there's really no difference between £20 and £30m. They're both massive amounts of money, we pretty much have a bottomless pit, just pay as much as is needed to get the player. Judge him based on how he does, not how he does against the fee.

I've come around to the idea having had 24 hours to get used to it. He could be devastating if used effectively with this attack. And I feel like it almost certainly means this is Arsene's swansong season otherwise he'd have gone for someone he could mould into his style over a few years - which is wonderful news as well.

So does this mean we'll change our style or not?

It's not just changing the style of play it's having players who can play to a certain style. It will need a quicker and longer passing game to suit Vardy.

It will be interesting how the media report Vardy once an Arsenal player. The nastiness side to him which has been reported generally positively will now be doubt seen differently.
He will have a Huge amount of pressure now.

Still has a strong whiff of Francis Jeffers to me. He doesn't seem to be the type of striker which fits into Arsenal's system.

If he signs, obviously I hope I'm wrong.

Hes banging them in for England not just Leicester so im not worried about styles of play. Good signing at 20 or 30.

Giroud seems to know Vardy is coming and thinks another striker to follow. So am guessing. Theo is on the way out.

I don't think Vardy is a bad buy. He's got pace, which is something different. That game where Theo played through the middle and Arsenal beat United 3-0 was one of their best performances of the season.

It's all up to Vardy now, should be decided by tomorrow apparently.

Don't believe Wenger has a scouting system at all. He just goes by 'who's available for the lowest possible price'.

Arsene is probably putting vardy off by not guaranteeing him a start, and stuff like that. I think arsene can be a bit a cold/distant at times, in all probability

There's really no point in falling for the will he won't he scenario, a bit like that time we put in the £1 over bid for Suarez. It's just a ruse so when we only buy one player in this window, Wenger can point to the fact "he did try". Smoke and mirrors. Always.

Not an arsenal fan myself, although i did hope they'd win the league, but i've been reading this thread to get the vibes on arsenal fans thoughts on signing (29 yr old) Vardy. My views from afar are pretty similar to this. Arsenal, especially this season, play far too much in front of the opposition which makes the signing of Vardy look quite odd. Many times when Walcott played lone striker he's looked lost and ineffective because they dont want to play early longer balls through or over the opponents defence for a pacy striker to run onto.

So if arsenal don't adapt their style of play significantly then Vardy signing could be bad for all concerned (except Vardys bank account). Worst case final nail in Wengers coffin and the start of Vardy and Ranieri's slide to mediocracy.

Not really the same as Suraez at all. He was never coming to us. So whatever we bid was irrlevant tbh. This time we actually trigged his contract. Not much the club can do if the player again does not want to come.

If he doesnt want to come fair enough, but I just want it confirmed so we can hopefully move on to another player. Bored now

think Vardy would have happened quickly if it was going to happen. Hodgson has now told him not to get involved in any transfer deals until mid July, after the Euros, apparently.

Same old, same old. Only difference this time is that Wenger is playing with fire as regards Ozil and Sanchez's contractual situation.

Looks like Vardy is waiting until after the Euro's to decide his future. He might be hoping other clubs come in for him. We should move on now. If he wants to sign for us there should be no dilemma. Sod him.

Huh? Every league he's played in he's won it. He's one of those players that clubs dream of: quick, scores, a bit streetwise, nasty if needs be, does the biz. I don't like his rolling over in the box at the lightest touch - usually that he's engineered himself - but I prefer him being in our tent at Leicester facing out, rather that outside it facing in.

Maybe he'll make his name in the next few weeks and then Arsenal aren't a factor, and the question of him staying isn't even an issue by then.
