As I've said before it's last chance saloon stuff. If he wants to justify staying put at Arsenal, he must win something. And by that I mean the league or Champions League. If he remains put, it highlights two things; a) the club put business before glory (like we didn't know that), and b) he's got them wrapped around his little finger.
The club are trying hard to 'find' a striker so we are told, but shouldn't this have been sorted out like two, three seasons ago? Why can't Arsenal just sign players in needed positions?? Wenger knows the team didn't score enough goals last season, so why isn't he going all out to find a goalscorer? It's depressing that Giroud is STILL first choice, when United bought Van Persie, won the title, signed Martial and have changed managers all in this time.
Then you have the issue of the manager not willing to spend the market value on players. Is this hindering the club? Perhaps. I think Wenger has the cheek to justify hoarding money, and reiterate the club will spend it when he leaves...........why not now??
I think my biggest concern is he can't get the best of his squad anymore. It's not like Arsenal have a rubbish squad. I think Mourinho and a few other managers would kill to have Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, Koscielny even Walcott in their first eleven.
I worry that if Arsenal start the season well, he'll sign a new contract. I'm hopeful he'll wait in May and just leave with dignity.

I was listening last night to a journalist who'd written a book on Sam Allardyce. He asked him why he had managed to be relatively .successful against us. He said it was because AW teams always play the same way no matter what. The tactics never change so he knew exactly what to expect and how to plan for it, even down to the timing of substitutions. He could adapt his own tactics whilst knowing AW wouldn't/couldn't.

It's really got that smell hasn't it? I think this is the season when things come home to roost. Arsene and the club are going to pay the price for the last ten years of incompetence.
Gazidis is in the papers today playing down expectations of big signings and saying we're looking for value in the lower leagues like Leicester did. God help us. I think I'll forget about this season, save myself the heartache and come back in a couple of years when all this will be a bad memory.
In the meantime, and because it can't be repeated enough ... WE HAVE MORE CASH THAN ANYONE ELSE IN WORLD FOOTBALL!

Exactly Sotek. I just get the impression we are preparing the ground for a new manager. By that I mean, keep things ticking over this season, get that top four spot and leave a load of money for the new man in charge to spend, haha. We are a club in limbo. Prospective signings don't know who the manager will be next season. I know players should want to play for the club anyway but you know how fickle they can be.
As I said before, if Wenger really wanted to manage England then it could have been achieved. An agreement could have been reached but he's so precious about seeing out the last year of the current contract. Nobody would have begrudged him if he chose to leave a year early. Hell, he's not going to be around forever, that day will come when we will need to find a successor.

I hadn't thought of it like that but you're right. If Arsene is going to crash and burn at least he hasn't blown a fortune on players that any new manager would find himself stuck with ... last minute panic buys excepted.

I honestly don't know if we will or not. Will Leicester City still be a force or a one season wonder? TH have been doing some business that's gone under the radar and could prove to be shrewd signings. We have three new managers at clubs that all under achieved last season. Chelsea just have the league to concentrate on. Mourinho and Man Utd won't be without it's dramas. They will be expected to hit the ground running. Ditto Man City. At least the spotlight won't be on us so much.
Top four could be very hard this time. Utd, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spuds, Leicester (possibly) to compete with. Obviously a lot of changes going on at most places so very difficult to predict what will happen.

Forget top 4. If we do not streghen well we will not finish in the top 5 or 6. Utd and City will be in the top 4. Chelsea should too as they only play a few games. So as the squads are now the last spot is between Spuds,Pool, lecister and us. We will struggle if we do not spend.

Agree with you all. I do not think Wenger will sign a deal till may. If we are out of top 4 he will walk. If shit hits the fan by Dec. He will go by Jan.

Chelsea have the advantage of no Europe, Spurs and Leicester will have to balance Champions League football which can be demanding. New managers don't always hit the ground running, and if Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs occupy the top three, I'd still think Arsenal will do enough to get fourth.
Every season pundits say this will be the one Arsenal drop out, just because other clubs have spent millions. Sure the challenge will be difficult, but when top four is your priority and the league is competitive, a low points total will suffice. If the Spurs collapse told you anything it was things change quickly in a matter of weeks.

We got Granit and Elney. We are fine in that area. Money needs to be spent in other areas. Still think we should go for Lukaku and Draxler and Grinter.

Football has changed. The era for new mangers is here and we need one to be competitve. Wenger is great but he just does not have the desire we as a club need. He and Ivan need to go.

Chambers needs to get some game time, he has to be ahead of Mert now and if wedding buy anyone I'd go for him and kos as 1st choice. Gabriel is too temperamental and very volatile too.

Some renewed talk about Lacazette this morning who has apparently asked to leave Lyon. We are again being linked, with a price upwards of £40m involved. Has the ring of truth to me, he's French and the Vardy offer seems to demonstrate that the club recognise the need to bring in a quality forward. We'll see.

What is not to say he wants to stay in Italy? They are one of the best teams in the world. Why would he want to come to us over them? Anyway i think it is too much money for a 29 year old who has never played in the Bpl and we do not know how he would adapt. That said it is frustrating we are missing out on strikers etc.
