I'm not confident that this is his last season. I still see him as the perfect manager for Stan's limited investment and ambitions. Q is whether Ozil and Sanchez will leave - depends on who offers them what I suppose. Sanchez has won most things (Chile prob not going to win a World Cup) but Ozil's never won the CL.
Wenger is perfect for the Arsenal Corporation. |

Agreed, don't see the board having the same mindset as the fans and not extending his contract. They just need to announce it at the right time when the team are winning games.
Wenger is perfect for the Arsenal Corporation. Look at it from Stan's point of view. He is extremely wealthy and married to a billionairess. As our increasing cash balances show he has given no indication so far that he needs our club as a source of income. He doesn't put money in but leaves us alone and so it is fair to assume he feels the value of the club is in it's increasing worth as the years go by. Therefore anything that reduces that 'value' is what will concern him. Our reputation is already slipping, drop out of the Champions League places (quite likely this season) and we fall even further behind. As we become less 'attractive' on a worldwide marketing basis the Arsenal 'brand' is diminished. That is what he will be concerned about. Can you imagine what scenes of booing fans together with increasing press criticism and mocking will do to the brand. There will come a point (and I'd argue it's already here) where Arsene Wenger continuing as manager becomes toxic and action will be taken. Also, it shouldn't be forgotten what a thin skin Arsene has. For the best part of twenty years the press has treated him with respect and the utmost politeness. Everything he says is treated seriously. Once that changes (and it definitely already has) and he is challenged properly then his ego will react and we will get more of his petulant outbursts like we saw at the weekend. I'd argue that whatever the board might do, we are far more likely to see him storm out sooner rather than later throwing insults at the ungrateful fans for not appreciating all that he has done for the club. It's already clear in his face that he isn't enjoying things at the moment. Can you imagine how much worse it will get if results don't start improving soon? Do you think they will? At the moment I can't see him still being manager by Christmas. |

I agree with sotek. Though I'm not sure he will be gone by Christmas. We will have those mini runs followed by mini slumps and so on. Enough to keep things ticking over in other words. I think he will see the season out and then decide to call it a day with Arsenal FC. He won't be short of work so he needn't worry on that score. I'm not sure he would want to go managing a domestic club again but there will be something to keep him occupied within football.

I like Arsene Wenger. No hate towards the guy what so ever. He's done alot for English football & Arsenal. There comes a time though when you have to look at things & take a step back.
The guy lives & breathes football. I wouldn't want him to be carried out of the club kicking & screaming, that's not fair. He deserves to leave on his own terms. Fergie left Utd when they were on a high & all credit to him. I feel Wenger should have gone after winning the FA cup. I don't think he'll get the swansong that Fergie had though. |

Unless I've missed something, he's brought it all on himself. At one stage he was running rings around Alex Ferguson, but Ferguson had something which Wenger doesn't - a lack of dogma and an ability to regenerate.

News on the Mustafi front: - Apparently he and his agent met with Valencia yesterday, and Valencia have said he is now free to leave if a suitable bid is made.
This I believe is him putting in a transfer request, and so giving up his right to claim on whatever is left of his Valencia contract. A stumbling block removed. |

Not sure how much there is in it, but a few sources yesterday were saying we have been trying to get Griezmann all summer. That would be incredible. I'm sure if we can't get him, Wenger has a back up plan / 2nd choice. Lucas Perez is being mentioned on that front.

Ornstein has spoken.
David Ornstein @bbcsport_david 49m49 minutes ago Arsenal interested in signing Deportivo La Coruna CF Lucas Perez. Not done deal but #AFC in contention - 27yo, 17 gls in 37 apps last season David Ornstein @bbcsport_david 45m45 minutes ago Estimate by @AST_arsenal was £96m for signings. After Xhaka/Holding/Asano/Kalechi & £40+m CB (Mustafi 1st choice), not much left for CF #AFC is it me or does Lucas Perez sound like one of those average signings that Wenger was so desperate to avoid? He may turn out to be a worldy though. This is the AST_Arsenal article he was referring to http://www.arsenaltrust.org/news/201...et-this-summer |

Why on earth has this been done in the week before the window closes and even then it's by hijacking Everton's deal?

All starting to look rather desperate. Can't believe a lot of these players we are now being linked with were ever on our "wanted" list originally.

If we sign someone late people will moan. If we don't sign anyone people will moan.
I guess we have to accept that from here on in, Wenger can't win with some people. |

And those are the only two possible options regarding transfers are they?
Come on Elyan, even if you still support Arsene, you have to acknowledge the appalling way the club is handling transfers at the moment. I think that we have a limited, although fairly substantial budget, of which we have already spent around £40m - £45m. I also think that we have been after specific targets that have proved difficult to get. That's not unusual, and it's not at all uncommon for a great many transfers to take place during the final week or two of the window. In fact the busiest day is quite often the very last day of the window. Does that mean everyone is panic-buying? Or could it be that all parties (clubs, players, agents etc.) are holding out until the very end to get the best deal? The Mustafi deal has been the most prominent. Valencia have a rich owner, and are not in a weak position. They can afford to hold out. And that doesn't mean we should pay through the nose as if our money was confetti. We are quite right to wait, if that is the name of the game. As I say, if he buys everyone early he'll be criticised for not waiting to see who might become available. If he buys late he'll be accused of panic buying, and if he doesn't buy at all he'll be pilloried even more. |

I guess we have to accept that from here on in, Wenger can't win with some people. If ODL signs the right players at the right time, I'd immediately stop moaning, and at a guess, many others will too. What's happening now is that ODL is not signing the right players and at the wrong time. I'd say that fans who are paying over the odds to watch the team play are fully entitled to air their views. We all know that you and Armi feel ODL can't do anything wrong, but surely you too can't be thrilled with the way things are going now?? |

I think I have a much more balanced view of the current situation than those among our fan base who feel it appropriate to constantly and vociferously insult our most successful manager, or refer to him using disrespectful acronyms. It's not conducive to an equitable debate. |
