To be honest, I think the main issue is that he isn't Henry or van Persie. He is not someone you can count on to perform in the big games and can't produce something from nothing. He sometimes looks lazy, but that is just his nature.

I think he is a good player, but all the other top 4 clubs have great strikers.
Good post!

My main gripe (shared by many other gunners within my group of friends) is that there's plenty of cash to actually get that great striker.

Diaby's turned down WBA to return to France. Marseille are the rumoured club.

£140k seems a lot given our wage bill

Santi also signed a contract extension:

That's good news. Hopefully, Santi will continue his excellent form and Walcott can fulfill his potential and do well through the middle.

Now, let's buy some more quality!

Walcott has got himself a good deal there. Lets hope he stays fit and delivers now. Still hoping for activity in the transfer market.

Definitely being paid that much for his potential more than anything else. Hope he has a good season and scores the goals we need to challenge.

Will this be the line-up for Sunday? Good enough to beat Chelsea?

I take it the 'missing MC' is Coq? Looks a decent side, doesn't it? Could welk be our 3rd trophy and the season hasn't even started!

Should be and I even took the trouble to get the spelling right

I still have concerns about whether they can score more than Chelsea and defend well enough to win, but there is definitely a lot of quality throughout the team.

just a few thoughts. Lyon were dire. Much more to gain from playing Wolfsburg.
Much as I want a striker, please not Llorente. He's lost his way at Juve and is slower than Giroud.
Theo is a 1 in 3 (chances) striker and not that useful if a defence doesn't play a high line.
We can't win the PL with him and Giroud (and Welbeck!) as our strikers.

At least we have a new coach for the defence. Petr Cech. He won't stand for any useless CB performances. He looks super motivated too.
There's no like for like replacement for Coquelin and Wolfsburg's first half performance reminded me of that. Arteta isn't an adequate replacement.
Wilshere not in my first choice midfield right now.
Akpom needs more loan time.
Agree re Cech, he's a better GK than any of our current lot but he is league's ahead in his command of the backline.

£140k a week for a player that's never got more than 10 goals in a season and is often injured?! Even by today's insane standards, that's nuts (and as usual, obscene). Also means we aren't getting anyone else in up front. I know English players command a premium but...
Pleased about Santi though, and Monreal if that's true.

It's probably my phone being a dick.

Chelsea aren't exactly in free scoring form with Costa and Falcao. Plenty of threat from Hazard and co in Midfield.

Our defence is solid, especially with Czech in goal now. We have a good chance to really start the season well. Important to get some momentum into the season, before Sanchez joins a few games in.

That's 10 goals an injury-reduced season playing as a winger.

What could he do as a striker over a full season?

And in his last full season he got 21 goals (14 PL, 1 FAC, 5 LC, 1 CL).

Maybe now's the time for him to show us.

It's very quiet here. You wouldn't have thought Arsenal had a match today.

Don't expect victory, not least because it's against a Mourinho team. But hey, records are there to be broken. Wenger is surely due a win.

So, Walcott starts in the middle. Interesting indeed and a good chance for him to make a statement.

Not expecting much but a win will be a good start and get that aweful statistic of ODL's back. Didn't expect a win against City last year either but that happened.

Well done!

Jose's face is a picture!

Nice touch with the handshake though, admittedly.
