Why is this talentless choreographer on the judging panel?

Tone deaf, gutless or completely wasted? I can't quite make her out. Why give praise to a performance obviously lacking in all departments.

Abdul is constantly bad in her judgements and should be replaced.

This years Idol is clearly a two horse race either Bo Bice & Carrie Underwood will win.

She's there by design - to add grist to Simon's mill. She puts tension in the panel and in the programme by being wimpish the whole time. Viewers like judges they can disagree with as much as agree with. So you have professional, careerist Randy, sugary, pathetic Paula and acutely observational critically witty Simon. Mums want kids to be praised, especially in America where you get overpraised for anything, Paula brings in that voting block.

I don't think it was necessary IMO to start a new thread for this (she's not worth it).
There's already another one going about her here saying more or less the same thing.

She isn't deaf, only drunk or on drugs.

I agree, she is under the influcence of drugs an/or alcohol and she already has a thread.

Could she have a lot in common with a Dyson?

First of all I like to remind people that the real judging is accomplished by the telephone voting system. The judges are no longer officially functioning as "judges" at this point -- they are there to throw out comments and generally keep things interesting. If you remember the first rounds back in January, you will remember a more businesslike Paula who was not afraid to judge harshly, and often did.

I believe Paula has a much-needed function in the current phase of the show, which she fulfills perfectly -- to find something positive to say about each performance. This acts as a buffer to the other 2, and helps keep up the self-esteem of the contestants, so they can muster another good performance in efforts to stay in.

As for the endless comments (especially in Fox's official A.I. forums) about Paula being drunk or on some kind of medication -- I am really tired of hearing this. She has a personality, like it or not. Those who do not like her are looking for something to hang their dislike upon. Saying she is high on something is conjecture, rumor-mongering, bashing, and just unfair, because there is no real reason to think so. Those who continue to post those kind of comments should grow up and get a life, or try to think of something intelligent to say for once.

Hmmm ... have you read the last sentence, part 2.1 in the T&C of this site?

It's called a sense of humour. We have that here in the UK.
Any and all public figures are subject to such comments, especially if they deserve it. If, as you claim elsewhere, you went to shcool in Essex, then you should already know this stuff.

I'm beginning to think that perhaps I was a little too harsh. Yes, I know that as a public figure, she is open to all kinds of criticism -- believe me, I have a sense of humor. I think I am [over]reacting to the barrage of anti-Paul posts I have seen on the official Fox site. I have read so comments about her being drunk or stoned. I don't know if she is or not, but repeating it endlessly on the [USA] A.I. forums has led me to believe that people are not merely expressing a sense of humor. Please, do not put me in the position of being the "Paula Defense Guru." I don't know what she is on about. I am just tired of reading repetitious comments about her which are all negative, which make no sense to me and don't seem to have a purpose. Maybe she is -- maybe she isn't, but I am ready to give up on this topic and move on.

Hmmm, if I have infringed, I am sorry. I really like this forum, and my intention is to comply to the rules. As you can tell from my carefully worded comments, I am not a mindless flamer, but someone who thinks before he comments, and carefully composes my thoughts before posting. In my defense, i am a newbie to DS (which I love for its civility), and am (unfortunately) accustomed to a more hostile and unruly posting environment on the Fox A.I. forum.

I wonder if the slanderous comments [about Paula] which offended me in the first place would conform to the rules of this forum (?).

In any case, I think I will "hold back" in the future.

You have a point. but the T&c's also state that nothing libelous should be posted, so I agree with most of the posters points.
noone can prove that Paula was drunk or on drugs, its just conjecture.

Yeah, it's only a bit of fun. At the end of the day, PA is the one on TV, making a fortune. If the American, (and British), public are willing to put up with her saying the same old same old each week, and at least appearing to be drunk, then good luck to her.

As I've been to the pub at lunch time and therefore am feeling somewhat talkative, I'll say my bit just to add to the forum... And as such I can't really comment about ANYONE being drunk whilst working because here I am, supposed to be programming and I'm tipsy on a fantastic bottle of Shiraz from lunch...

I wouldn't like to see any particularly nasty comments on this board (I'd expect NOT to see any racist or sexist comments (I can handle the occassional homophobic comment because I'm a homo and I can either say something really bitchy back or get on my soap box - which is always nice)), but the odd bitchy comment or ten is always fun to read.

Paula is another matter. To say (especially in Season 3 of AI) she LOOKED like a prostitute doesn't mean she IS a prostitute. Wearing too much make up and some quite frankly disasterous clothing on international television and expecting to get away with it is a serious issue people!!!

I guess I've been guilty of saying some quite horrible things, but they're all done in the best possible taste (as the late great Kenny would say).

Paula's a fence-sitter, bland, sometimes over made-up, sometimes fashion car-crash, but she's still nice, and I know if I were up on that stage, I'd need SOME comforting words no matter how bad I was (and judging by my ban from the local karaoke competition - that would be BAAAAD!!!).

Besides - who else could they have on the show that would snog Simon every week (I've volunteered believe me...).

Back to work... erm... oh - it's gone 3 now. Hardly worth starting anything now... Shiraz anyone?

No need to apologise, not to me anyway. I didn't post anything about Paula so your initial post wasn't aimed at me but I just found it a little strong and wondered if you were aware of the T&C.

I know exactly where you're coming from, I posted on the Bolt message boards when they were the official site! And yes, DS is much more civilised which does take a while to get used to, but it's well worth it.

Probably not, so you'd be within your rights to report it to the mods and let them decide if it's defamatory - because I understand that can be a very serious issue for forums.
