I don't know if it's been posted on here that David Tennant features as the villainous Kilgrave in Marvel's upcoming series 'AKA Jessica Jones'.
I've done a forum search and I can't find a thread about it on here, so I'm sorry if somebody has already posted this.

Anyway, there's some photos of him on set.

David Tennant is supposed to be playing the Purple Man....yet he doesn't look purple.

He wears purple clothes in an on set photo.
Maybe they may make his skin purple by using post special effects? They did that in X Men First class for the character called Azazel.
Or it may be one of those things where they felt that some adaptions from comics just wouldn't work onscreen. I guess that's why some superheroes costumes are toned down for films and TV series.

Maybe what happens to make him Purple hasn't happened yet? I'm not clear on Jessica Jones lore.

Good point. In Daredevil it was shown as the beginnings of the characters. So it might be the same with the characters in Jessica Jones including David Tennant.
Mind you I'm not sure that they will make his face purple. They probably won't bother.

Marvel generally never tone down. And rightly so. If David Tennant isn't purple, then this series will be dissapointing IMO. It's purple Tennant or bust.

So you're saying that if David Tennants character has human skin it'll be a disappointing show? Sure, it could be a personal disappointment in regards to the character but if Daredevil was anything to go by the show will still be exceptional.

Given the way the Marvel Netflix TV shows appear to be being presented, a man with purple skin would look unbelievably out of place anyway. I'm only halfway through Daredevil, but it seems quite grounded and realistic as opposed to the worlds of Iron Man and Thor, for example. So long as David Tennant nails the role, which I am certain he will, then everythings fine by me.

Iron Man has always had a iron suit. The Purple Man is supposed to be unnaturally purple skinned.

DareDevil's suit is practically the same as in the comics. Marvel's output should always be faithful to the comics.

He looks great as is. No need for purple skin.

Well yes. People post loads of stuff about new projects Doctor Who actors are involved in. So therefore I wouldn't have posted it if people didn't do that, and this isn't some minor background character, it is David Tennant after all, and I think it's pretty certain that there will be fans of David Tennant who would be interested in this role if they didn't know about it before.

I wasn't even much of a David Tennant fan myself. I only posted this for the people on the forum who I know are. I wish I'd never bothered now.

In the same way that the Hulk is supposed to be Green, sure, why not?

If you're going to include a comic book character who is called the purple man because of his purple skin then why adapt him for film to be called the purple man without purple skin? The change would only serve to distance the character from the character he is representing.

Marvel haven't been overly revisionist in the past. The Hulk is still green, the Kree are still gray, the Thing is orange and covered in rocks, the Beast is still blue and covered with fur.

Only because he gets covered in chemicals.


No doubt they are planning on showing how he gets turned purple on the show, meaning there will be scenes from before he turns purple.

Plus I seriously doubt Iron Mans suit is actually made from Iron.

Because he could be called the Purple Man because he likes wearing purple. For every Thing that's orange, there's a Johnny Storm that's black. But then, this isn't about skin colour, per se, but about things are adapted for different media and the story they want to tell. The X-Men don't wear blue spandex, regardless of what they do in the books. The Abomination in Hulk isn't a Russian KGB agent. Spider-man isn't created by a radioactive spider, but a genetically-modified one.

He wasn't born purple. Something happened (chemicals spill) caused it to happen.

With Daredevil, it was as much an origin story for Kingpin. I'd expect the same for this. There is absolutely no need for him to be purple from the beginning.
