I am thinking about getting a Roku HDMI stick for an HD ready 720p LCD TV.

I already have a NOW TV box connected to a CRT TV. When using the NOW tv box to access BBC iPlayer or YouTube it doesn't fit the screen properly - that is it cuts off significant amounts at the top and bottom and both sides as if it is zoomed too big. So on iPlayer you can't see the top menu bar and we can only see the C of the BBC logo on the top left of the screen. You tube is similar, not being able to read the menus on the left of the screen.

As NOW TV is a version of the Roku box I thought the Roku stick may have the same issue with an LCD tv. (Although I have the NOW TV box I don't yet have the LCD tv so can't test it.)

Does anyone use the Iplayer or Youtube from the ROKU HDMI stick with an HD ready Tv and do these problems occur, or do you get the full picture?

I have a roku. Same issue with iPlayer, but I think youtube is ok. The menus are fine but the programmes have the top and bottom cut off. I've tried emailing the BBC but no response

This is a known issue. The BBC has notified Roku about the problem, but that was a while ago. It seems the ball is in Roku's court.

Having also looked on the Roku and NOW TV forums it appears that the problem occurs on some (mainly older) TVs and not others, has been about for some time and hasn't been solved. Maybe its difficult to solve as no doubt both Roku and BBC would have solved it if its straightforward.

I don't know if this is related, but sometimes my TV changes display modes because the Roku doesn't seem to enforce a display ratio so the picture gets a little stretched in AUTO mode. Setting the dispay to 16:9 manually works for me.

The BBC appear to be suggesting it's a Roku issue but it only started when the BBC updated their apps a couple of weeks ago. Each of the BBC apps (iPlayer, News and Sport) is affected, but everything else is fine.

The separate problem with missing text at the side of the screen could be an overscan issue. It's worth looking at your TV's picture or set-up menu to see if there's an option such as "Overscan" (should be OFF) or "Full Pixel" (should be ON).

I have a Roku box as opposed to stick but it has the same problem on both iPlayer and the BBC Sport app.

It really shouldn't be Roku's fault since I have never experienced this problem with any other app and I am using quite a few.

Interesting point, but that could be seen the other way around as well, as in "It can't be the BBC's fault, as I use the iPlayer on lots of other devices, and the problem is only on the Roku".

What is probably the problem is this: We see it, we talk about it here, but do we contact Roku and the BBC? Any company prioritises their issues based on how many complaints they have. There may be 10,000 people with this problem, but perhaps only a dozen have complained.

And before we discount that it could be so small, I know from experience when working in similar tech companies that when we had a global issue that affected millions, we often only received around 20 complaints unless the service actually went black. That doesn't mean half a million were complaining on various forums around the world, but we were far too busy to check for that.

Moral: Everyone who has this problem, contact both the BBC and Roku now. If you have already done so in the past, chase it up.
