K9 didn't appear till after that. The dark and gothic era was hintchcliff era. It got lighter once graham Williams took over. The only time Williams era was overly dark was image of the fendall and that was at the start of his era.

The entire Tom Baker era overall is described as dark and gothic. Also: Mary Whitehouse. I rest my case.

And K9 wasn't in that one anyway.
Fendahl always strikes me as a script left over from the Hinchcliffe days - it's so out of step stuck between the dopey Invisible Enemy and the sarcastically comedic Sunmakers.

You can rest your case all you want, but you are wrong.
Baker's second and third seasons were intentionally dark and have frequently been described as Gothic, but that's it.

Graham Williams was specifically told to tone down the violence and the darkness and to ramp up the humour and quirkiness. This he did and this dramatic change in tone pleased Tom Baker who arguably took it rather too far, until JNT took over as producer and stopped most of the humour. But the grimness of late 1975 - early 1977 never returned.

And after waging a real camapaign against Who in the mid 1970s, Mary Whitehouse barely mentioned Doctor Who after 1977.

Back on topic - if a Peladon story is really being planned, as some have suggested, then we've simply got to have Alpha Centauri back!

But who would voice him/her?

Another vote from me for Captain Jack - he and Twelve would be fascinating to see together.

Seeing as how the modern UNIT seems to be appearing semi regularly, it would be nice to see Benton or Yates again. Just a little cameo would be enough.

Mary Whitehouse complained about anything though. The last thing I would describe most of seasons 15 to 17 is dark or gothic. The fendall dvd notes mention fendall as the last of the gothic era. Sure there is some dark or gothic moments but I wouldn't describe them as that era as dark or gothic. Stories such as invisible enemy sunmakers underworld invasion of time ribos operation pirate planet androids of Tara power of kroll and pretty much all of season 17 the last things I would describe them as dark or gothic

I'm so glad we don't have your version of Doctor Who. Michael M as Alpha C, Miranda Hart as the Doctor, probably David Walliams as the companion, etc.

Probably a bit past its sell by date now,but I've been hoping for the past few series that Claire Bloom would make another mysterious appearance as the Women In White.

I know it was insinuated that she was the Doctor's mother,but it was never fully explained.And even if she was,.what a storyline!

At the time I really thought it was building up to a brilliant arc,but was dropped almost,immediately.

And while I'm at it,we never found out who the other shamed Timelord was in the End of Time!

Actually, I would have Michelle Keegan as the companion because she's bang tidy...oh, and she's a flipping great actor.

Miranda Hart would be perfect for the Doctor IMO as she could offer a wide range of Doctor personalities.

A new companion, who embraces the life of travel, to travel alongside the doctor and Clara, until Clara is gone completely then this new person becomes officially recognised as the main by way that by the time Clara has gone, this person has already been traveling permanently in the TARDIS for so many episodes that they already feel like the main companion by the time Clara leaves anyway.

The reapers (just because the doctor messes with time so much that if we never see them again, it makes the whole idea of them turning up in fathers day less credible)

These next few are one's where it is a 99.9% certainty they won't return be in the next series, but since the thread ask's who i'd like to see rather than who I expect I might see then I think it's perfectly ok to include them in my list.

I think the character David Walliams played in The God Complex would have potential for a return. Self serving, snake in the grass Ferengi kind of thing.

I would argue the media already objectifies women anyway and always has done. Why change something that works?

The Reapers definitely have the potential to return. I wish I was showrunner because I know exactly how I'd bring them back.
