Why is what Babe did so bad? She was trying to get a foot in the door of the Vic - just as Shirley did. At least she was willing to make a financial investment and work cooking which is more than shirley did. Shirley is excused as wanting her famiy back. Nane clearly wants a famiy too.

She plays members of the family off against each other - so does Shirley. When Mick was away she moved Dean into the vic trying to get Nancy and Lee on side, when Dean was away she played nice with Mick. Now she expects Tina to pick sides.

Shirley laughed about Babe's humiliation with the Trifle in front of a room full of virtual strangers that don't know Babe, her history or the full story. Nasty - really nasty.

They are both unhappy women that do the wrong things but i think shirley has had a lot more chances of a potentially happy life (men that wanted to be with her, having children, being offered businesses) than Babe has had.
