Carrots. Peel or not peel ?
I am just about to make a pan of stew.
My wife insists that I peel the carrots, but I say that it's better (vitamins, flavour etc) to not peel the carrots. I never peel carrots ! But I peel them for a quiet life !

Depends on the state of the carrot, young tender ones can be easily washed and not need peeling but a larger tougher one can benefit from being peeled. So I judge carrot by carrot no hard and fast rule.

I don't peel carrots. There is no need. I used to pull them out of the ground as a child, brush off the mud and have a good old chomp.

I peel what needs peeling including spuds then a teaspoon of oil to coat them and into the air fryer and they make lovely crunchy treats for the dogs.

The veg I grow, I don't peel, because I know what (as in none) chemicals I've put on them. I do peel commercially grown veg.

I started this thread because the other day, I was preparing the carrots to make a carrot and turnip mash.
When the wife came into the kitchen and saw me about to put the UNPEELED (but cubed) carrots into the pan, she went nuts ! "YOU'VE GOT TO PEEL THE CARROTS !!" FFS ! |

Never peel, just give them a scrub to get any surface mankyness off.
Then they are ready to go. |

I never peel anything except aubergines and squashes. Life's too short to mess around with such pointless exercises.

I usually peel them unless they are the very young carrots without blemishes.
I never peel potatoes though except sometimes for mash. |

From what I heard that unlike potatoes, it makes no difference if you peel them or not, vitamin-wise. (Carrots contain large amounts of beta carotene regardless)

:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Too good for the blimmin' dogs! Add a little salt and garlic powder. They make the most delicious fried snack. |
