One of the very first singles that I ever bought was Child's Prayer by HC. Through out the 70's and early 80's they released some (IMO) classic singles.
You Sexy Thing is one of the few songs to make the top ten 3 times. But for me it was always It Started With A Kiss which still gets regular plays on my iPod.

RIP, Errol Brown.

Hot Chocolate had an impressive number of hits, although their only UK number 1 was "So You Win Again".

I think so, I can't even think of any albums they did, but their sequence of hits was just as good as any of the great 70s bands. It was a decade when competition was really fierce, so bands needed to be sharp to attract that TOTP/Radio 1 audience consistently for the 10-15 years that Hot Chocolate did. Plenty of big names only had hits over a couple of years or so. Apart from Errol, they were really a bit more of a songwriters' vehicle than a band though.

Tracie Young on Radio Essex has just mentioned Errol Brown's death. She had 2 songs in mind to play, and thankfully passed up No Doubt About It and played the festive-sounding I'll Put You Together Again.

I liked several other Hot Chocolate songs too. Examples are Emma, Cheri Babe, Disco Queen, You Sexy Thing, Put Your Love In Me and Everyone's a Winner.

I suddenly notice the coincidence that for 2 successive Christmasses they had a hit with Put in the title!

like abba, they are remembered mainly for their worst tracks, the cheesefests that adorn karaoke players and have infiltrated popular culture.

I didn't know any songs other than You Sexy Thing until a few months ago. It started with a kiss in particular is a quality song

I would also have to add
No Doubt About It
and Put Your Love in Me.

There is no harm in being essentially a singles band when the singles are as diverse and at times edgy as Hot Chocolate could produce. Some of the best have already been mentioned but I would add 'Rumours' and 'Heaven's in the Backseat of my Cadillac'. I always loved the guitar sound as well as Errol's voice.

I vaguely remember their first album 'Cicero Park' getting some critical praise.

'I'll Put You Together Again' is an amazing Hot Chocolate single from Christmas 1978. Unbelievably it only peaked at No.13. It'll give you goosebumps!

I'm not really a ballad person but that is the definition of classy.

'Man To Man' was my other favourite of theirs.

I've been listening to 'I'll Put You Together Again' on repeat all weekend. A truly brilliant song - and Hayden you're right. It is the definition of classy.
