It may be nothing. It may be something. Just sharing it with y'all.

Alex Kingston has hinted that River Song could make an appearance alongside Peter Capaldi’s Doctor.

Speaking at Mega-con, she said: “All I can say is… spoilers! But what I will say is the sonic screwdriver that I had in Silence in the Library, which had been given to me by the Doctor, is not the sonic screwdriver that has been seen… yet.”

She later added: “I haven’t been told I’m done [on the show].”

On how she thinks River would react to Capaldi’s Doctor: “Well River’s dealt with a lot of Doctor’s faces in the past so I don’t think that it would be a surprise to her.”

Damn. Sounds like she's returning.

Damn Moffat and his stupid obsession with River Song.

Great news! I hope she does return.

I'd like to see her back.

..largely because I could see Capaldi and Kingston sparking off each other very well (I could actually see her as a full time companion with Capaldi..not something that I think would have worked with David or Matt). I'd quite like to see River and Missy face off as well.

It is clear to me that River's story is most definitely NOT done with yet. She has to make another appearance in Doctor Who soon, either in series 9, or series 10, so that the Doctor can give her the 'Future Sonic Screwdriver'.

Then, she will say that she's off to a Library of the future, and that will be that.

Hopefully!

So no, we need to see the last part of her story before the library bit happens. Then we can say that Alex has finished with the character.

NO thank You, Her story ended when Smith left.

I want her back, but as part of a wider assemble.

She's had her moment in the spotlight but I like the character. I'd love to see her in the show alongside Captain Jack preferably for a two-parter. Give us that screwdriver scene and the Singing Towers scene, and explore Jack's missing memories mentioned in Series 1...I'll be happy with that.

I would remind you that the Future Sonic Screwdriver and their final meeting before the Library were implied in her last story (I'm not sure if it was her last story or an earlier late story with Matt). My point is that it is not entirely necessary to cover it, it would be nice to have that on screen but it is most certainly not required. In terms of all the important stuff her storyline is finished, we know who she is to the Doctor and the key events mentioned at the library or before/ after (depending on who's perspective your coming from) have been either screened or alluded to including Jim the fish! Basically River can become whatever Moffat wants her to become.

Would also love her to return. Especially if she gets to confront Missy as a part time lord a sure she could handle herself.

PC would work well with her. Chance to show of his softer side. 12 will remember her and his feelings for her. Should use her real birth name "Melody" at least once to honour the memory of her mum and dad his best friends.

River Song would have a affair with Captain Jack directly in front of the Doctor, which would make her even more unlikeable.

Never been a big River fan, but I agree with this. Plus if she's supposed to have travelled with a variety of the Doctor's incarnations we might as well see it.

It sounds like River could appear but who's to say that it won't be only once in Capaldi's era? If she does at all.

Why do we need to see more of Steven Moffat's fictional crush?

Really? And what in her character so far makes you say that?

Her tendency to flirt with every single thing.

Flirting and having an affair are two very different things. You do realise that, right?

Jack is a flirt too. Probably would do it as a laugh to wind the doctor up and see his reaction.

So it doesn't become just one more idea he plays with for a while and then fails to follow through on.

I'd like to find out what the Doctor meant when he said ''there's only one reason why I would ever tell anyone my name, there's only one time I could...'' I always felt they were going somewhere with that.

Yes. But what in her character makes you think she would: a) cheat on the Doctor and b) do it in front of him?

Being a flirt is not an answer.

Eurgh. I wish she'd drop this, she's getting more mopey than Barrowman.

Pretty sure Moffat said if he had a decent idea to bring her back he'd think about it but was satisfied with the parting in Name of the Doctor. And wasn't there a short episode around the 50th that ended with River leaving for the library?

Glad to hear of even an implication that she might return for a few reasons

1) The way she talked about the doctor's faces, though never specifically stated, seemed as though she'd seen more than just 2.

2) Alex kingston is right what she says in the interview, we have never seen that screwdriver since, but more importantly, why go through the trouble of doing the entire story of someone from birth to death, imply right at the start that there was a moving, important 'final day' for the doctor and river where he knew she was going to her death and gave her the new screwdriver, and then go on to show pretty much every other pivotal moment in her life but not that one which had been hyped as the final goodbye of there relationship in her very first episode.

3) The supposed 'goodbye' in name of the doctor was no such thing. The version of river in that episode was a data ghost, which as said in the library episode, are nothing more than an echo of consciousness left after the real person has gone. The real river died in the library, her final goodbye to the doctor from his point of view is derrilium. It is the definitive end to their relationship where he is letting her go to her death yet he has no choice because he knows it must happen. Until we see this realised on screen I feel her story will never be 'done', and apart from that what an amazing episode or few scenes such a powerful scenario could create.

It's very clear that she was asked by someone about it, rather than it being a case of her not dropping it. And besides, surely it's better to have an enthusiastic cast that is always up for more than a cast who leaves with horror stories of their time on the show?

I'm up for more River, if the story calls for it.
