of course, and in another she'd be Ginger.

Hope not.....though it could compliment Flash, unfortunately it is at the cost of Arrow, which seems to be have been dumbed down to compliment Flash.

Could the half sister, wear it.

Great first episode - I get an Ugly Betty vibe about it, but Kara isn't....and we get a Brit too.
Liking the idea of a Prison Ship 'escapees', Kara's fault, and the capturing of them - with Sister helping.

Bit of a blast from the past with Ally McBeal......”

Super people fighting super people is the whole point of comicbook superheroes!

Arrow could get away without the supers because neither Arrow nor his friends were really super-powered. You couldn't do that with someone as powerful as Supergirl. You need to provide a challenge (without resorting to Kryptonite every episode).

I thought the escaped prisoners was a great idea. It gives a reason for the villain of the week to be equal to her each time.

Which is probably why there won't be a crossover unless the baddies in the other two shows become more powerful.

Or the ratings drop.

I just watched it and I thought it was good.

I liked Melissa Benoist (as Kara/Supergirl) and Chyler Leigh (as Alex Danvers) but I'm still not sure about Calista Flockhart (as Cat Grant) yet.

From what I read in the US Supergirl had the highest ratings ever for a series based on a comic book.

I'm same about calista. It's not that I don't like her because I do, think she was great in ally McBeal but I'm just not sure about her has this vile boss. That's the only thing I had a small problem with but definitely something I can live with.

There have been various cases where a white character has been cast as a black actor and none of them have bothered me , but this just seems ridiculous , plus he's not even like Jimmy .

and I can't see him dragging-up very successfully .

I like Jimmy in Supergirl, sure he's different but he's more mature as he should be by now.

I agree, my only niggle is his now buff status given all the backstory which is widely known about him being a bit of a weedy geek. All they needed was a throwaway line about how he decided to get fit after his move from Metropolis and it'd be done.

The show already has a "weedy geek" in the person of Lara's co-worker Winn so they didn't need another one

His Dad is the Toymaker who is already confirmed to be in it soon and now rumours are he will become the 2nd Toymaker

Does anyone else think supergirl and Jimmy just make an odd couple, he's just looks a lot older than her, I would say Winn is the better option, besides having a good eye for superhero suits he seems to be her best mate ala Barry and Iris.

Also I can't take ally mcbeal seriously, she doesn't suit her role. Did Dean Cain have any lines or was he in it as a 1 off for nostalgic reasons

Supergirls foster parents were Dean Cain and the woman who originally played supergirl in the movie. Dean Cain has put on a lot of weight since his superm..... Oops, I mean he who must not be named days

I thought it was quite enjoyable. I'm not keen on the actors playing Winn and Jimmy though, thought they were a bit wooden.

The problem is see with this show though is how formulaic it will be. Every week will be a new villain for Kara to deal with. Also the fact that she's already got her powers and knows how to use them means there's going to be very little development in that way.

How can they keep it fresh and interesting every week before it becomes stale?

He played her adoptive Dad.

Helen Slater (Supergirl from the 80's film) played her adoptive Mum

TBF part of the story is that she dosen't know how to use her powers as she has hardly used them since she arrived on Earth (Guess she has been on Earth about 10 years)

Aside from her cold breath she displayed all her powers in the first episode though and she could certainly use them well enough.

I just think once the novelty of having a great looking show (and it does look great the effects were excellent) we're going to left with very little else besides villain of the week plot. Kara has lived a normal life for x number of years so doesn't even has any social awkwardness in that regard. We wont even have the juggling a relationship issue as it seems they'll put her with Jimmy or Winn who already know her secret.

Promising pilot. For me it looks likely to come between Arrow and The Flash. I'm not really into The Flash as I find it a bit childish, but I love Arrow. With this I liked the feminism bits. I hate it when people use "girl" to refer to adult women, as it diminishes them, so I fully agreed with her on that and Ally McBeal is wrong. I also liked the relationship between SG and her adoptive sister, at least as long as sister isn't supposed to be evil. Also, liked that all her friends know who she is by the end of the episode. (One of the things I dislike in The Flash is his hiding his identity from his would-be girlfriend.)

Cheers guys. I completely missed that.

He was very good in Smallville (watched all 10 seasons over the summer so it's not like I haven't seen him in years)
