Both are heroines. Sarah Jane Smith is the correct way to do a female TV protagonist IMO.

Shall we see how she turns out in the final show? I expect that she'll purposely have aspects of her character that will require change during the course of the show; it would add something that I don't think is present in Arrow or The Flash though to be fair Oliver's growth came while away.

So Supergirl needs a load of teenagers helping her?

That's nonsense. If TV was constrained to making every female heroine like Sarah Jane Smith, there'd be no variety at all. Sarah Jane's SITUATION is nothing like Kara Zor-El's situation--you can't equate them in the least.

Because some of us just want to watch superheroes, not superheroes who are portrayed as unusual because they're female.

I'm kind of expecting something like this. Plus, tone often changes over time with these shows and different writers will emphasise different things. I like to give these shows at least a half dozen episodes before deciding whether to continue or not.I remember when I saw the first episode of 24 at the time of its first UK showing. Sort of half-watched it and didn't take to it at all. I found the split-screen stuff a turn-off. But if I'd just stuck with my initial impression I'd have missed something. When I eventually caught up with it I was hooked of course.

I don't think any of the 'Scooby-gang' for the current heroes are teenagers.

Yes, the six minute trailer creates an initial impression but in the context of the whole episode it might work out fine. (I didn't dislike the trailer but I also would like to see a progression character-wise.)

I meant to comment last week but count me in for watching this.
Trailer looked great, I like the lighter tone and generally, Benoist looks like she's going to be brilliant as Supergirl and Kara respectively. |

Just watched it...........
Very similar premise to the Flash - lots of Super Villains on the loose - its Kara's job to mop them up. I enjoy the fact (like The Flash) I can watch it with my young son. Yes I know that annoys a lot of people on here - but its a bonus for me. I haven't watched any Arrow episodes but I get the impression its more adult. Got good feelings about this series. Nice to see Superman in the pilot also. Up up and away.................... Dave |

Arrow and Legends Of Tomrrow will be the darker more serious series. |

I enjoyed it too & how they explained her delayed arrival and the show's "Haydron Collider Oops" event. Just wondering how they'll explain why Superman isn't helping out round up all the baddies. Though he could be staying away because he's allowing her to become the hero she needs to be without relying on him stepping in every 5mins.
That's the 'trouble' with many of the DC heroes - too darn super. Begs the question why they remain in their own cities when bad stuff is happening 1s travel away. But I think I can put that to one side and embrace the series as it look like it'll be a lot of fun. though

They just need to be portrayed as female rather than male! Unless you think that female is "unusual?"

They are on diffrent networks but the same parent company owns both networks. |

I do often wonder with these leaks how accidental it truly is. I don't know how it would have been distributed, but if a copy is delivered to various people for screening, and I didn't want it out, I'd send them all slightly different copies. Whichever one made it online, well, then you know who the culprit is.
