Definitely has a lot of potential. How awesome would it be though if superman made cameo on it. I can definitely see a superman series at some point.

While I think it's awkward the way they keep saying "your cousin" instead of using his name, I can't think of any surer way to kill the show than to give Superman a role in it.

This is Kara's story and her show. Bringing her cousin into it will cheapen her journey and distract from the fact that we're (finally) getting a kickass female lead.

Was there a reason why they couldn't actually say the word Superman? Is it a copyright thing?

It made me cringe every time they said 'My friend in blue' or 'Him' or 'My cousin'. Closest we got was a new reporter saying the man of steel.

it's probably earier to say them things than refer to him as "the indestructable, high flying, planet saving, city destroying metropolis sized elephant in the room"

who cares im just glad i get to see live action supergirl it's long overdue and besides supergirl is actually stronger than superman

Without a doubt, one of the best pilots I have seen from a sci-fi/fantasy show in absolute ages. It ticked every box. It felt like a 2 and a half hour film stripped down into a forty 5 minute pilot.

i'm starting to agree there should be no crossover for a while at least untill her show has established itself, it would be a bit disrespectful to arrow i mean supergirl is by far the most powerful of the current dc tv cast she could get rid of all arrows enemies in a "flash"

Wonder which broadcaster will pick this up? I'd have thought it would be on sky one same as arrow and the flash.

Supergirl, like Superman, is a DC character. Same as (Green) Arrow, Flash, Batman, etc.

DC is owned by Warner Bros.

Warner is one of the production companies behind the Supergirl TV series, and is also the distributor.

As such, I doubt it would be any kind of copyright issue.

I think Kara is a cutey, although her "gosh gee whizz!" style could be a bit irritating.

Wasn't a fan of everybody giving her advice and knowing what's best for her, and whilst I understand the logistics, it's a bit freaking much for Jimmy to be passing on words of wisdom from Supes.

Plane rescue was great, fights were so so.

Kara brought all these aliens with her like Clark and his meteor shower. Oh no, not again.

The lead villain looked like a throwback to 80's soap villainesses, is she General Zod ?

In all there's a lot wrong with this show for me, it feels no different to most other superhero shows except the lead is pretty charismatic and a lot of the humour works .

As usual I don't really think spoilers should be discussed in a main thread until after an official broadcast.

They DID say "Superman". At least 3 times.

I can't say why they used those other phrases at others, but there is no debate here. They said it. Hopefully there are video clips out there to back this up and someone will post them, but simply rewatching the episode as a whole and not being thrown by the use of those other phrases, if you listen closer, you'll hear it.

Okay, lets go with timecodes. They may vary between the many copies streaming up there, but not by THAT much, so just search around them.

None of this is really spoilery, since it doesn't reveal any plot details, so...

Firstly, the name "Kal-El" is spoken a mere 14 seconds in (00:14). Yes, that's not "Superman", but it's also not even SLIGHTLY vague about who they're talking about. It's no nickame. And it's said again and again over the next 2:20 minutes, culmining in the following:

"When I arrived I was still a 13 year old girl. But in that same time my cousin, Kal-El, had grown up and revealed himself to your world... as Superman. The most powerful man in the Universe."

This is so near the beginning its easy to check. Just have patience for the first few scenes.

It's also not the last time it's said. They do so later in the pilot as well, I believe, at least twice more.

I think you just have to give these things a chance. Most shows in my experience do not seem that promising from initial glimpses or initial episodes even. I tend to give things about a half dozen episodes before deciding whether to continue or give up. Though from some of the comments in forums such as these it can take even longer than that before a show "finds itself."

The show is fine, IMO. It's just that a lot of traditional comic book "nerds" are terrified of losing cultural ownership of their toys, so the moment they see a take that threatens that, they go into attack mode. Ergo all the harping about how "chick flickish" the show is... a freak out that ACTUALLY happened at first JUST based upon the 6 minute first look because the "Fight Song" piece of music vaguely seemed similar to music from previous female skewing shows.

Of course there are many things to work out from the pilot and improve, but overall they seem to have a decent balance. Not quite as firm as lets say "The Flash" had from their first episode, but better than "Arrow" did at first.

As for it seeming "too similar" to other existing shows? That's the exact opposite complaint from what most people are tossing at it. Again, it's that freak out over the idea that it might draw a more powerful non-traditional viewer base that might somehow take the genre away from the classic comic nerds. But really if it's getting complaints from BOTH sides (that it's "too different" (aka "chick flickish") but also some like eggshell who think it's "no different", then geez it's got trouble. But there's nothing the show itself can do other than churn out good episodes, because there's no pleasing both sides of such a divide.

there's bound to be girly elements she is a girl after all, it's as though some people think kara/supergirl is not allowed to date or have any kind or girl time, witch i don't mind at all i just wish it was me, and it draws you closer to the character, i suspect the pilot will get very good ratings, and hopefully it will continue, supergirl deserves nothing less, good luck to melissa and eveyone involved
