I wonder do the production team sit around a table and try to come up with a different idea each year to try and remove any sense of excitement or originality the show ever had.

I for one won't be taking a peek, it takes away all the intrigue of the launch.

PS: Anyone who does read the HM bios before the launch, please start threads relating to them with a *SPOILER* tag, thank you!

I think they should do away with first week evictions. But have a more fair and balanced edit for all housemates. Not that I expect anything of the sort, why would they change their biased editing now.

They don't ever have housemates from the general public no more they get people from agency's. A little research once housemates are revealed will prove this.

Is this actually the first time this has ever happened?

Live launches didn't happen until BB3. The Series 1 Launch night happened after the Housemates had already been in for three days. Was there no live feed or information on the Housemates via the website before this episode was broadcast? I wasn't watching in 2000 and was only about seven, someone will have to clarify that. But I would imagine that this is not the first time that the Housemates have been made public before Launch night.

All these stupid bloody twists. Bring the bloody live feed back!

To be fair, looking at it properly, it could be good for buzz. Go on Twitter and the BBUK hashtag is the most busy its been since the build up. Then there is a chance that BBUK will trend on Twitter 2 days BEFORE it starts which I guess is good promotion too.. and then those last 2 days, the Twitter feed could be busier than usual as those who have taken a peek, will be discussing it.

So, to be fair, this is just a way to get BBUK trending before launch night so there are possibly more people that get to see it rather than just those on Twitter a couple of hours before launch (when BB usually starts trending).

Also, it's not the first time ever. Pretty sure BB2 revealed them before on the papers.

I must admit my first thought wasn't good but now I think it's a great idea it has created a lot of buzz for the new series and now I can't wait for it to start, I might even enjoy the launch more because normally I,m literally trying to remember everything so this time I,ll know about them and I can sit back and enjoy

No No No No No No

Totally wrong, one of the the things that set BB apart from other reality shows was that you didnt know the hms til launch, terrible, terrible idea, meeting the hms on launch night for the first time was what the night was all about, now they have ripped the heart out of launch night and makes you wonder what the point of watching will be when you know everything in advance - YOU NEED SURPRISES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. What exactly are we going to watch for 90 minutes that is going to hold our interest? At least they have absolutely no excuses for anything other than a full house tour and some actual footage of the housemates entering and their first impressions etc. It's obviously going to be taken up by the obligatory launch night twist involving instant segregation and no doubt access to their suitcases ...

But even if you're right about bb1, the HMs weren't revealed before they were in the house. In effect, the launch was delayed, rather than the HMs being revealed early.

Twitter could be busier than ever, because those who peeked are discussing; but it also could be less busy, because some of the comment that would normally happen on launch night would have already happened.

It's useful to bear in mind that "trending" on Twitter doesn't mean it's the most discussed topic. The amount of discussion matters, but so does how rapidly it increased. By spreading out the time when people first learn about the new HMs (some viewers will peek early, but at various different times; some will wait for launch night), the early reveal could easily reduce the amount of trending BB does.

I don't think it makes much difference if it's not the first time ever, if people have to go back to BBs 1 or 2 to find another instance.

Has it created a lot of buzz?

Not when I look at Twitter.

How many tweets about it have there actually been?

The tweet saying "Massive news: we're going to be revealing the new housemates before launch night!" has only 152 retweets and 183 favourites.

If I search for #bbuk, there's only a small number of tweets earlier than the 5th, and there aren't many of the 5th either.

Fine by me. I was only planning to watch the launch show anyway, so I could see who's who, now I don't even have to do that. Unless the series turns out to be utterly brilliant with lots of engaging housemates I'm only going to follow it online rather than watch whole episodes.

Has Couch Potatoes revealed one of the HMs already? He posted an official looking picture of someone on Twitter and asked the guy if he was ready for the experience.

The countdown begins on the official site to the reveal

Can't believe they are doing this, do they not want people to tune in on Tuesday evening

The really big timebomb twist is that they're going to decide the winner at at the start of the series I'd imagine...

Not just launch night it seems but every step of the way

Even if you avoid it it will still completely affect your launch night, as they'll assume most people already know who they are.

Exactly. And if it's based on their 'played up' VT auditions we'll already have the wrong end of the stick even further in advance now

Yep I reckon they sit around a table lined by lines...

100% agree with you, it also means you won't be able to use the Internet much cause someone somewhere will have put it on FB, Twitter & other social media sites, don't like the idea of this at all.

I'm sure for BB1 the housemates profiles had all been in the papers before we got to see the first show so keeping them a surprise only started with BB2 onwards (or even then I think they were also revealed beforehand). Full lists of housemates always seem to leak these days before the launch show anyway so I'm all for this.

Remember BB can change the format whenever they want. It's an evolving gameshow which some of you seem to forget. You go into meltdown if there's a slight change to your perceived idea of what the show should be.

This is correct:

Quote:
“The identities of the 10 - selected from over 40,000 applicants - are being kept secret until they enter the house in Bow, east London.”

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/808710.stm

The housemates were known to online viewers before the first HL show. This BBC story is from the day before the C4 launch show but 2 days after the housemates entered. Anna was already bookies' favourite to win:

I personally think half are ex-HMs and the other half are new.

I want all of them to be new, with only ex-HMs coming in for certain tasks or drop ins. They should save the ex-HMs for UBB2.

Hope UBB2 never sees the light of day..UBB was dreadful and a huge letdown in terms of how returning hms can dissapoint you.
